recrewing starbases

Soumis par bananafishbones le Mar, 2007-02-27 12:22 Space Empires V General

if you build a starbase away from a planet, and then you have construction ships available to retrofit the starbase... you lose the crew.

anyway to recrew the starbase? i've tried bringing a cargo of my population to the starbase and it doesn't work.

it just sits with an empty crew... obviously the starbase can't go to an appropriate planet to recrew itself since it has no movement.

here's a question... what effect does no crew have on a starbase?
For a ship it's just movement in half, right?
are there any firing penilties?

SEV, more than a feeling.

I'm not too sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if weapon rates and shields were affected as well from having 0 crew. Mind you, the issue of recrewing starbases is critical when the enemy has Toxic Injectors.

As for how to recrew them... only sensible thing I can think of is "get Master Computers on them".

Never had this happen so dont have an answer but very interesting question if you opponent likes toxin injectors. Perhaps a medical bay will regenerate crew as it does in Starfury?

hmm.. You're right there is no way!

This is definitely a design flaw rolled over with a bug. Way too nasty.. Smiling

And how can it be solved?

The best way would be to make the crew a cargo item. This would solve another poster's request of having the ability to transfer experienced crew into new ships. And it would lead into proper crew xp loss when some crew dies.(is xp loss already implemented?)

This opens up a new ship design type: reserve crew transport, along with new ideas for components like combat crew teleporters to send reinforcements during a battle.

but then how can you transfer their experience along if their cargo is stateless and they are not treated on a per unit basis? and how do you handle a crew on a ship with mixed experience levels? you average it? use the lowest value? you dilute the xp among the crew?

not to mention the micromanagement headache..

This reminds me of something I've been curious about. Can you combine crews with master computers?

You could do that in SEIV and you had all the benefits the 2 "ship control methods" had.

My guess would be that you can do it in SEV although I haven't tried it yet.
