How to stop AI players from fighting each other??

Soumis par glockgemini le Dim, 2007-02-18 19:12 Space Empires V General

I want to play a game in a medium map wtih lots of computer controlled empires and the last game I tried the end turn portion was taking up to 15-20 minutes to complete. I thought that if I made all computer empires allied against the human players that those empire would meet with a little combat and then make a patner ship or something and the computer-computer combat would be minimised and eventually eliminated.
Well, this game is going just like the first. There is more and more combat every turn and now the turns are up to 10 minutes by game turn 15. Any suggestion on how I can force the computer to "gang up" on me? I may have to quit playing all togher until the computer combat gets "fixed".

PS Just a suggestion, but maybe there should be some definitions listed on the home page so that posters can learn the difference between "there" and "their" and other commonly misused words.

There is an option when you set up your game to have all computer players allied against human players. I forget where the option is at though. Enjoying a game with something over 200 systems at the moment (memory leak gets nastier, I tell you what), so haven't looked in a while.

In New Game Setup, go into Game Options and check "Team Mode".

Team Mode still doesn't stop all fights, they will all make treaties but some of those treaties don't allow free travel in friendly space. As a result....., neutral space is fine, but one goes into anothers system... combat.

No No, "Team Mode" just means "Declare War on everyone every single turn" which is even more pointless than if we let them fumble around normally. A patch needs to fix this so it's "Declare War on the humans every turn and form an Alliance between AI players".

Dont know if you can do this in SEV, but in SEIV I select a few enemy empires to be human controlled and have them surrender to one of them thus creating one large empire out of the three... Doing this strategically and careful0ly selecting the empire the few surrender to can led to serious challenges later on when you switch them back to computer control...

Just make sure when u do this that the empires surrendering to each other all breath the same atmosphere. AI Population ministers will get confused otherwise and lead to domed planets all over, at least until the new patch and AI comes out using the new get_sys_population thingee...

I tried team mode too. And it was crazy.
I met AI, AI declared war on me. AI begged for peace and offered me all its technology.\
AI gave me some techs and declared war. AI begged for peace ...

Mmm, that is an idea... More sane than the "x10 build speed" bonus I had in mind, and quicker than the "make a Scenario where the AI are programmed to ally together". Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, that the team mode isn't working is just another bug/unfinished feature.

i have high hopes for the next patch to cut down on the turn times, outside that id have to ask , WHY does the AI keep sending a steady stream of single ships through warps points even after they have lost a few dozen? one game i had not too long ago i had a treaty with a next door neighbor, we both shaired ships views (including cloaked)as well as system data, but only non agression in non colony systems and the AI still sent ship after ship after ship through a wormhole i had defended to their doom. warnings to stop border incursions did nothing the AI claimed the land even though it was my home system. i was in a corner of the map with only my home system and one other system behind it that dead ended so there was nothing else on the other side of my system they would want to get too.

now keep in mind that the AI had 2 , yes thats right TWO planets to my 16, maybe 25-30 ships they had to my (caped) 100 and were ages behind in the tech race. just one of my destroyers blasted through to their side and took out 10 of their lt cruisers by itself. their home system had 4 wormholes but even still, they sent ship after ship after ship one at a time through the worm hole, WHY for Gods sake? they could see everything in my two systems, and my systems dead ended so what is the reason they keep streaming ship after ship into my death trap? were they thinking that they could clog the wormhole with their ship wreckage and stop my war machine from getting to them that way? is their any reason for it besides just bad AI? they did get a little fancy about 400 turns into the game when they started sending 2 ships at a time every 10 turns or so but by that point my fighters were a match 1 v 1 for their frigats and 3 fighters could take down their best LT cruiser with ease. my Heavy ships were like the British Med Fleet during the heigh of the Pax Britanica, just loafing around in orbit and polishing their gun tubes and siping tea while 6 fighters and a small sat stood guard over my whole empire. madness
