No. They do not have any specific instructions to use those design types.

It's not that it needs fixed, but rather implemented. It will be a time-consuming task I'd imagine considering all the instructions and strategic considerations you'd need to build into the functions for the AI to use them.

at the very least teach AI to built star destroyers and use them on opponents systems. even make them cloaked.

I think the most urgent is the ones that create warp points.

Now, if you close your corner, stay closed until is convenient for you, and you can start to remove defenses on planets and open the contact to the rest of the galaxy in a very defended (lots of stations) place.....

If the AI start to open WP, you have to maintain defenses in all places......

Would teaching them to create planet makers be hard? you would ofcourse have to teach it to only create planets in systems the AI owns. the seIV (TDM) AI created lots of planets which really helped it out a lot (certainly with FQM for SEIV wich has lots of asteroids)

That would be relatively easy. The harder ones to creation functions for will be the "tactical" ones like star destroyers etc. Sticking out tongue

If the AI has more state of mind, i think it would be easy to make them use thoses. For exemple, if the AI is sufficiently pissed off at another player, it could turn into the "MAD" state and start using planet destroyers and the like. Once AI's start turning MAD, the whole game turn into a M.A.D situation (ie Mutual Assured Destruction). This could be a challenging end game scenario...

It's a shame it wasn't coded to do so originally

yeah it truly is, how hard would it be to add this to the coding if possible?

It's likely a time/priority issue at the moment. I'd expect to see these functions added in the near future.

lets hope so,, a more intelligent AI would be awesome
something that would be really good is a self programming AI that learns from players. Like a program that watches how players play and program accordingly

Captain Kwok,

Please don't forget to have AI ship strategies for drones be Kimakazee. It is annoying to chase them around the map.

The question is about stock 1.25 and also BM 1.03

I was unaware that the AI is currently unable to use these features. That is unfortionate and disapointing. (Ring Worlds and Sphere Worlds too?)

I will probably purchase the expansions, 'Dark Avatar' for Galactic Civilizations II and 'Warlords' for Civilization IV.

I will return here periodically to check for better patches and I hope to see and purchase an expansion for Space Empires V soon.

Priorities that I want in a patch:
-the above features implemented for the AI
-better AI
-"the fog of war" issue fixed/implemented(Opponent planets, ships, fleets, bases, etc. shown faded out with the date that information was last seen.)
-option at the begining of an encounter to not fight; the AI use this often; and let the choice affect relations
-An alliance victory; tone down Mega Evil Empire; relations should gradually decline; alliances that MEE has should decline even more gradually; empires further away should be less affected towards the MEE
-scrapping population causes unrest and lowers relations with others; mass destroying opponent population lowers relations with others

Priorities that I want in an Expansion:
-refined research and economy system; (I'm uncertain now how this might be done; research facilities could have increasing maintenace of all three resources, currently research seems "free"; an "overall economy" slider?, one side is production and the other is research; economy sliders for each planet also?, incorporates amount of population per facility?)
-space entities/creatures that spawn/duplicate; not all hostile; can help some ways if friendly; can provide resources or reasearch if captured and "dismantled" or studied
-exploration discoveries on some planets and in space; the ruins along with relics, ships, information, resource stash, primitives on planet, etc.
-Faster Than Light travel along with the warp point travel; events and encounters in "deep space" between the stars; I know that this is a big one and a popular one. Perhaps it is better suited for Space Empires VI. But it would be nice if an improvised system was in an expansion.
-a bigger map with more stars; map as a galaxy and not a quadrant; star systems are the best or average of other minor star systems between them
-neutral empires that can travel and colonize other stars. Their advancement is slowed due to mental intelligence(evolutionary level), metabolism, religious and philosophical beliefs, etc.
-ability to create planets without using asteroids, using the hyper-density cables and plates used for Ringworlds and Sphereworlds; this technology should be in the technology tree/chart between creating planets with asteroids and creating Ringworlds.

Priorities that I want in a sequel:
-Perhaps this is an idea that would work well if this game ever went massive continuous multi-player on the internet. But it would also be nice to see it implemented in a single player game: a system that allows random empires to start more advanced and bigger; minor empires could be like neutrals; minor empire's many stars could appear as one star on the map to a major empire; there could be levels of these majors and minors such as: infant, young, adult, mid-life, ancient, etc.; maybe a major can not/will not attack a minor; or if a major attacks a minor his relations with others will lower; a major and minor could still use diplomacy to communicate and trade: this could help the minor to advance to next level.
-planet maps with slots for facilities; planetary invasions and bombardments take place on this map
-AI have standard race names BUT random empire names that could vary much for each game
-galactic map for main view that can be zoomed in and out

I'm sure that Aaron will make a special effort to get you what YOU want since it is apparent you are obviously the Most Important Person Playing the Game

Thank you for thinking it apparent that I am the most important person playing the game. How sweet; and you don't even know me. I sure hope that Aaron makes this "special effort" that you speak of. But these are really just my suggestions from some of my thoughts and from other players that would improve the game, in my humble opinion.

Should I have instead written, "Priorities that we want..." :No...I will not speak like that. I speak only for my self using my thoughts and information from others. I am an "I" and not a "we".
Or "Priorities that would be nice and much appreciated, in my humble opinion..." No...again. Are so many people becomming so politically correct and judgemental that freedom is diminishing?

I am a customer(I hope valued) and a fan and I have the right to say what I want.

With this type on info floating around we can now punish the AI even more so..

we can use the "poisoning the well" technique by destroying systems and planets,
we can divide and conquer by closing warp points in the AI systems,
we can get more planets and hence facility space than the AI to build our research centers since it doesn't build new planets from asteroids.

Stellar manipulation is the hallmark of the Space Empires series in my mind. I wouldn't buy it if SEV didn't include it. I prefer it being unimplemented but in the game as a player feature initially, instead of it being dropped as a feature because of time considerations.

DEFINATELY, that is important.

Other ones are the ones that create planets and to a lesser extent ringworlds and things like that as that also gives the player a huge advantage. The one with the most facility space and population will win out eventually unless their strategy is simply idiotic.

Stellar manipulation is unique to this series of games so it should be something that the AI takes advantage of.

Personally i feel the resources that Malfador has doesn't allow them to have features like this. IMO if they want to have complicated things they should just not include them rather than not implement the usage of it by the AI being that most people will play this single player.

They really need to expand from their handful of people, imo, otherwise you wont see much improvement. This is their 5th game in this series you would think their company would have evolved by now.

I would rather of had them stay 2d and turn based battles and keep things simple there so they could spend their limited resources on things like this.

I think they have worked miracles as it is considering the resources they have.

I know it's weird, but in SEIV I would often make a stealthed ship with planet creation abilities (and its own repair bay, and extra solar panels) and fly it around in enemy territory creating planets.

I found it to be the most effective way of keeping the AI competitive in mid-game.

I also liked to de-link black hole systems, then link them back up in a string and make them the only way into my core systems. I know, I know...the AI won't handle it well so it's effectively locking them out...but by the time I could do such things I typically didn't have to worry about the AI in those systems anyway, it was mostly for the storytelling flavor: "That weird race that's beyond that string of black holes keeps making planets in our systems...we usually can't see their ships, but we get a blip on deep space radar for a moment and >foomp
