Diplomacy: How to make peace?

Soumis par solops le Sam, 2007-02-10 18:22 Space Empires V General

How do you ask to make peace in a war? There are no choices of cease-fire or truce or whatever. All I can figure is to propose a non-agression pact, which is a totallly off-the-wall thing to propose to an enemy in the middle of a war.

BTW I play against the AI. This is not a multiplayer situation.

Basically you offer a treaty of some sort usually something basic like non aggression in all systems if accepted this will stop the war. The name of the treaty is largely irrelevant other than it needs one.

However stock AI's seldom accept these and seem quite happy to fight to the last. Your best chance of peace in stock is to disengage from the enemy for long enough that its mood recovers to a point it offers you a treaty or just defeat it outright.

The AI's in both the IRM and balance Mod are more reasonable and more likely to offer or accept peace moves especially if they are losing or you are stronger.

I have been using the balance mod and have yet to make peace with the AI, unless of course you count taking a piece all of their planets! They will fight to the death, so count on a long war if they are as strong as you. Of course considering how bad the AI sucks, you will eliminate them eventually.

why can't SEV have an option like GC2 where it is called ceasefire and allows you to demand or give things for ceasefire.

You can do that as a cease fire is in effect a treaty like any other a treaty with a universal non aggression clause is exactly that in this context. The problem is that unlike GC2 the stock AI will not agree to them when angrier with you than indifferent. They will also maintain there anger if you are not careful by attacking you and losing even if you pull back. This means a fight to the death but not Genocide as planetary invasion is quite doable once you get the knack. It’s harder in the BM as the AI makes a better go of defending (hint research mine sweepers and sweep first with ships you consider expendable)

Hmmm...OK. This sounds like a "feature" that needs to be addressed in a patch at some point. I guess there are a lot of more pressing issues. But, a "once at war, always at war" situation does not seem right.

For now, it looks like I'll have to keep fighting my "amiable" neighbor as well as the "furious" guy.

I tend to agree that the AI will rarely agree to a ceasefire after being angry at you

darnstraight...

But the sceond part got me: you're ALSO fighting your amiable neighbor?
unless you mean, at warp points (come thru and get shot up), I am a little confused.
maybe your treaty just doesn't call for non-aggression?
but are they actually sending fleets to trouble you?

I think a good idea to implement would be to have an option of mutual withdrawl as well on warp points. If empire A has ANY treaty with empire B; and empire A sends a ship, esspecially colony ship, through a warpoint to explore; resupply etc. Then if ships enter warp point and warp to Empire B 's defense center. An option should be given as

A- procede with movement aka normal combat
B- An option of mutual withdrawl; where Empire B's ship declare "error made, returning to previous point"

an easier way to do it is to allow you to see what is at the end of warp point when your units move there. You only see the other warp point 's tile and nothing else. At the very lest those wastefull blind exploration whould never occur.

if he is and I think he is since thats about the only fight which could happen betwean amiable empires the trick is to alter the no agresion clause to all systems. AI's dont declare war until they are displeased or worse and to be honest itchy fingers on warp point guard fleets is somthing you can forgive.

It also helps if you mark friendly systems where this happens as systems to avoid as it stops you blundering into fights whan under minister control. You have to activate the movement restriction minister for this to work properly

..if he is, thats my confusion:
i never thought of those as "attacks" - i call those

"Stumbling drunk Blundering Idiot Mis-steps"

which of course is why i keep short-range "defense" ships and satellites as
Bouncers

LOL - I've just started a thread on that very topic...

Actually, both nations have declared war on me (at different times). The fights have been going on a long time. I have not invaded any of their systems or planets. I think they got PO'd by co-habitation of systems and constant warp-point friction. Both were at one point "Furious". Now, one is "murderous" and the other is now "indifferent" (down from amiable). I have spent the whole war holed up behind my defenses, tring to be peaceable. That will end soon, as I intend to glass and then occupy two of the "murderous" humans planets that are in one of MY systems, their claims notwithstanding (closet xenophobe, heheheheheh!).

If only they would make peace....

Solops, you are clearly right.

You will have to grant them mercy.
as in , put them out of their misery.

Like the rifleman said,
ain't nothing more peaceful than a dead man.
