Mod for Heavy Fighters

Soumis par Samaw le Jeu, 2007-02-08 12:23 SE:V MODs

This is a easy mod to apply to the data files. I have decided that Heavy Fighters are basicly Attack Fighters. Which 90% of Modern Fighters usually have two pilots. So made it a requirement to have two cockpits and two life supports on Heavy Fighters. What do you all think about this minor mod on Heavy Fighters?

It sounds fine, but the AI design script would need to be updated for this change, or it will not make large fighter designs due to illegal designs.

Actually attack fighters (a-10 for example) are usually single seaters. There are major exceptions (such as the torando) that sometimes use two seats. Personally i like the idea though.

Correction more like superority fighters like the F - 14 / F - 15. Even though the new ones have better electronics to allow one person to control all the functions of the air craft.

keep in mind the SIZE of those cockpits and life supports.

those 2 components together are 1/2 thesize of the USS Stark!
who said that cockpit is 1 man?

heck, i was looking at including life support as part of the cockpit to explain WHY it weighs 1,000TONS.

Those 35kt fighters? by comparison,
an Essex-Class Carrier?
Displacement: 27,200 tons
36,380 tons full load

heavy fighter, huh? Eye-wink

Heavy fighters? Good idea! I've already implemented it and expanded it in my mod to include light fighters.

My concept is that the light fighters (30kT - 50kT) would be fast, interceptors armed with high ROF, short-range DUC's designed to dogfight other fighters (aka Skyhawk, MiG, Tiger).
Medium fighters (55kT - 80kT) would be multi-role capable of doing every job a fighter can do, but not best in any one role. Moderate speed, moderate defence, a few heavy weapons and a couple light (aka F-4, F-16, F-22). Heavy fighters (85kT - 120kT) would perform the assault roles primarily against ships, planets and bases. A two-man crew and armed with heavy weapons and heavy defenses - able to absorb some PD hits and drop payload on target (aka A-10, F-14, F-15, B-2, Fulcrum).

Required some tweaking but got it to work within IRM 0.8a. Smiling Sweet!

That's a great idea, give each fighter a roll. I use my fast fighters to get rid of those stupid retreating colony/drone ships. I don't want the enemy getting a free view of my systems.

SEV, more than a feeling.

Actually the majority of modern aircraft are single seaters the f-22 / f-16 / versions of the f-15 and f-18.

The trend is toward single seaters in aircraft.

Also the idea of making roles for a fighter is great, but can't you do that in the design phase? Attack aircraft get Naplam...etc. make the fighter role specific....

It would be even better if there were 3d models for the larger fighters. Using the same model for small and large spoils the fun of watching a pitched battle
