Any way around facility upgrade tedium? |
It's quite tedious now that I have like 30 planets with research labs and then I discover the next level of research labs and want to upgrade all my existing ones... Is there a shortcut?
Wait a Few Levels
Don't try to upgrade only one level. Run up a tech several levels before upgrading, 5 at a minimum to around 20. Also don't try to upgrade multiple types of facilities. Research one facility type to upgrade several levels and then do the upgrade and then move on to another type of facility.

Another way to do it (as I do..) is to have HUGE storage for resources, able to take large deficit spending for the several turns (up to a year depending on how many facilities are being updated on your larger planets). It is a good idea to have large surpluses in case you need to go on a building spree. Costs peter out after a few turns.

Upgrade tedium is inherent in the poorly-conceived "infinite" tech tree system.

Isn't there a minister for this?

Upgrade button
In the main construction screen (the icon with the wrench, top center-ish), there's an upgrade button. You can use that to upgrade everything possible within your empire. Gets rid of the tedium, but it puts upgrades for EVERYTHING into the queues, so if you want to do only some and not others, you'll then need to go into the queues and delete the upgrades you wish to wait on.
