Repairing Facilities?

Soumis par JeffGeorge le Dim, 2007-01-14 19:06 Space Empires V FAQs

I've done a search through the manual and this website and can't find any information on repairing damaged facilities. How do you do it???

Space yard

Soumis par Phoenix-D le Dim, 2007-01-14 20:57

Building a space yard is the only way to do it in stock.

Failing that, scrap and rebuild.

auto repair

Soumis par evilginger le Dim, 2007-01-14 21:11

they will automaticaly repair at a slow rate even without a space yard and a repair ship in orbit will also speed things up

Got It

Soumis par JeffGeorge le Lun, 2007-01-15 08:24

I thought that they were supposed to automatically repair. I guess that only works if you still have population surviving on the planet, though! I think that's what the problem was; I hadn't noticed that all of my pop was gone. An enemy attacked the planet but broke off the attack before destroying everything on the planet. I'm not sure I understand why they did that.

second that

Soumis par evilginger le Lun, 2007-01-15 21:15

AI planetary raids often end up with them running out of ordinance or supply and it’s a good time to jump them with a pursuit group since an out of ordinance warship is a soft target

total lack of poulation will put all production rates to never and auto repair is a function of that

The same planet mentioned in

Soumis par JeffGeorge le Lun, 2007-01-22 00:03

The same planet mentioned in my previous posts in this thread now has population. I was unable to move my own citizens there because of the enemy ships still surrounding the planet. However, some creatures, errr, beings, from an ally of mine emigrated to the planet and they have begun producing again. Yet, turn after turn, all of the facilities remain at the same damage levels. What do I have to do to get these lazy immigrants fixing those factories?

blockading planets

Queues?

Soumis par JeffGeorge le Lun, 2007-01-22 12:27

They are producing items in the queue so it's not like they aren't doing anything. Does repairing facilities require production input, meaning if I'm using all of my available production to build things, will they still be able to repair?

no but

Soumis par evilginger le Lun, 2007-01-22 12:34

No but to repair stuff there has to be the capacity to produce. Though doing so has no effect I am aware of or rate of production. It works the same way damaged ships repair in orbit of a spaceyard which is building somthing else.

Then I Don't Know....

Soumis par JeffGeorge le Lun, 2007-01-22 12:38

why are they are not repairing. Maybe I need to teach them a lesson and turn the satellites that they are building on their houses.

Any Ideas?

Soumis par JeffGeorge le Mar, 2007-01-23 21:37

So does anyone have a clue as to why these facilities are not being repaired even though the planet is popping out production items turn after turn?

Unfortunately you need a Space Yard or Repair Bay in the same sector. I've sent several e-mails to MM reminding him that there needs to be a default rate for planets to repair facilities (ie a setting in settings.txt) without having the aforementioned SY/RB.

That seems to be the answer I needed. Is this a bug or WAD? I agree that if they can build things from the damaged factories they certainly should be able to repair them.

Since you seem quite knowledgeable about this game, I'm going to hijack my own thread to ask a couple of non-related questions:

1) In the same game with the non-repairing facilities, I have a treaty with an empire in which they give me knowledge of all of their ship/unit designs. I notice that some of their troop designs don't have any weapons. Is this a known issue? (It'd be nice to have a 'copy' feature for those enemy designs you wish to base your own on, as well as the ability to know whose design it is when looking at the blueprints.)

2) Is there a way to get the 'Extras' for SE IV if I patched my original version of the game to 1.95 Deluxe?

It's not officially a bug, but I'd classify it as an oversight.

1. I know there's still a few issues with stock designs for troops - which would include no-weapon designs.

2. All of the extras are available online, most of them can be found over at http://www.spaceempires.net/home/index.php in the downloads section...

Even without the extras, it's a good idea to patch up your old SE:IV classic to deluxe...

Oh, I did! The strange thing is, when SE IV first came out I bought it based on all the raves from players but just couldn't seem to get into it. Now I can't get enough of it and actually prefer it to SE V, though I think V will become a great game when it reaches the level of patching that IV has. One of the things I find that I miss from IV to V is some of the ease of interface. I don't really like having to click an extra level to jump back and forth from enemy ship designs to my own, for example. However, I do prefer the build queues requiring a double click to add an item, as I prefer the single click item item information versus IV's right click (not to mention V's lists now scrolling a single screen at a time like a good Windows app should). However, I do miss IV's map showing the distance between the selected unit and the destination under the cursor. I hate the idea of having to resort to counting hexes to see if I can reach my destination in one turn or not (I don't think I've counted hexes since my old ASL days).
