Tactical Combat

Soumis par JeffGeorge le Sam, 2007-01-13 12:45 Space Empires V General

Is there a way to have the game default to non-computer control of your ships at the beginning of each battle? Do I always have to switch auto-move and auto-targeting off? And if I do, is there a way to make my ships actively pursue the enemy? If I don't give them move orders they just sit there. Even if I target an enemy they won't follow the enemy to continue shooting at it.

Is there also a way to get your game settings, as far as game options and minister settings, to stay set from game to game? When I start a new game everything is back to the default.

Switching

Soumis par Phoenix-D le Sam, 2007-01-13 21:10

Once you order a move or attack, auto-move switches off automatically. You have to manually order movement for a pursuit; the ships won't move into range automatically with automove off.

Is there any way to set

Soumis par Dr Strangelove le Sam, 2007-01-13 23:02

Is there any way to set ships to pursue specific enemy vessels?

Automove

Automove ON and right-clicking on the target should do it.

Not if the default order for the ship is 'Don't Get Hurt'. It seems in that case the only way you can get it to follow is to keep issuing move orders while the enemy is targeted. Big nuisance. There should be a way to change a unit's standing orders in combat.

This doesn't work, at least not in 1.25. You can manually target all day long and the a ship, even with an order such as 'Optimal Firing Range', won't go after the target you give it. It just sits there, even with Automove ON. So what does everyone do to get their ships to chase down an enemy?

if your really in one of those situations where the guy is running away cause of disabled weapons...you can always order your ships(or ship) to ram the target assuming your weapons'll kill the target before you actually ram it...

I don't think this was working correctly in 1.20. I had fleets of ships (that break formation immediately) ordered to attack different ships, but they all chased after the same ship. It seems the AI isn't using the actual targetting order to decide where to go, it's using its own targetting order. It does fire correctly at the targetted ship though, so this is automove specific
