Why shoot buildings?

Image de redbullbear68
Soumis par redbullbear68 le Ven, 2006-12-15 17:56 Space Empires V General

I've noticed that buildings can be targeted during ground combat. What is the effect benefit? Do they correspond to facilities?

Shooty Rednecks

Even though I'm not a redneck myself, I also enjoy a healthy amount of gratuitous collateral damage.

Dead facility = dead facility

Soumis par Thy Reaper le Ven, 2006-12-15 20:26

Although I do not use ground units... ever... I'm very sure that when you kill a resupply depot, the resupply depot on the planet is then dead. Same for all other facilities.

The only advantage I see is if you're losing and feel like going out with a big bang.

Unclear

Soumis par redbullbear68 le Ven, 2006-12-15 22:28

It's not clear though what the relationship is between the facilities and the buildings. If you right click on the buildings you get the Empire stats of the owner.

Buildings = Housing

I believe the models of the facilities represent the facilities themselves and the regular building models represent housing for the populace, in case you run out of facilities to destroy.

'Cause you know, sometimes civilians just happen to get caught in the crossfire. Stupid civilians.

There was not a lot of design that went into the ground module. It is very weak, I would call it pointless and a waste of resources.I had imagined a wargaming approach to the goundcombat but what did we get?

The subject line is too short for a decent quote to fit in it

I would have to disagree there is a lot of potential in the ground combat module and I would rather have it than the animated illustration of an auto calculated result (MOO2 GCII). Like much about this game it is potential left to us to discover but there are plenty of Moders about and who knows I might become one if I get past the idea's to code blockage

Err thats expecting a bit much really, it would be a whole seperate game (cool add on though).

At the moment ground combat is really very simplistic and does need work doing to it, there are already a few ideas knocking around to make it better such as improving milita units (more or better) giving weapons platforms the ability to shoot on the ground in way or another.

Feel free to add more suggestions, as the more people contributing the more likely modders are to be able to give us a decent ground combat system. However I doubt it will ever reach real wargaming standards, but it would be cool if it did.

I've got your subject field right here.

http://www.spaceempires5.com/en-US/node/1797 - a small start with plenty of room for more ideas.

IIRC Kwok's balance mod gives PD weapons ground damage so they can fire during ground combat. But only at fighters - I added troops to the target list for my games.

Yeah, that was a typo missing troops. It was fixed in the upcoming v1.01. Sticking out tongue
