Technology Issues When Loading Empires |
Is anybody else having problems loading saved Empires, in relation to technology costs?
For me, no matter when I save an empire, their technology costs are set at full when I reload them. Since I always start with no tech., I end up having to click 15 billion times to clear all the technology from the empire. I keep saving the empire(s) at that point, but when I start a new game, I am unable to load the empire unless I set the tech. level for new players to All, because the game tells me that the empire has used more tech. points than allowed in the current setup. No setting besides All works either. This is very very annoying, to say the least!

Go to the Game Setting Data
Go to the Game Setting Data File (Settings) and scroll down to the starting player tech levels.
Change
Starting Player Tech Points Low := 100000
to
Starting Player Tech Points Low := 200000
When you load your empire from file, you will need to select this item from the list below your empire. Your game will start normally now. Some techs you really can't undo. Like your homeworld being Ice, Rock or Gas Giant. You spent tech points learning to LIVE on your planet. Plus you know how to build spaceships so that gets included.
The number suggested has not been fine-tuned yet. But it definitely fails to load at 190000 and loads at 200000. I haven't tried to get it any tighter than that.

Shift-Click
Don't forget to try shift-clicking, this usually cuases a 10X effect on stuff like intel, research, and other things.

200,000 = Colony Tech
When loading an empire file that was saved in-game, it seems to also save the fact that you have your colonization tech, although in the tech screen to start it doesn't give it to you for free. This means that you must have 200,000 tech points to spend to load the empire. Removing this technology from the list and resaving the empire allows you to load it with 0 starting tech points. The empire will still start with the appropriate colony tech, so nothing ends up broken.
Still a bug though... must remember to report it.

Another Thing...
Another issue that is annoying, is that SOME of the technology subtraction buttons cause the view to be reset, while most of them don't. This means that to get a tech. than is at 100 down to 0 requires not only 100 clicks on the minus next to the tech., but also an additional 100 clicks or 100 scrolls with the scroll wheel to get the tech. back into view after every click!
