Space Empires V General
Any info on this particular file would be greatly appreciated. Such as, are all the listed categories included in the "score"? Does - 0.0 - mean no? Thanks

Number of colonies is zero
Soumis par Fishman le Mar, 2006-12-05 02:22
Number of colonies is zero likely because there's a weight value for "facility tonnage". Thus a player does not gain any points for worthless facility-less colonies, but only for the number of productive facilities present. Same reason number of ships is zero: Tonnage of shipping is already counted, and counting the number of ships on top of the ship tonnage would be double-counting.

Scoreage

Thanks for the reply. I like your reasoning. I am stubborn, though. I still think a better file can be "built". I am not sure I would consider a facility-less (soon to have some) colony worthless, but point taken.
A facility-less colony is not presently contributing to your empire at all, except perhaps as a defensive liability. It may do so in the future, which will increase your score because then it will have facilities! If it has no units on it either (units on planet also increase score), it is likely to quickly belong to someone else.
Tonnage vs numbers can be misleading in terms of strength (strength in numbers!, sorry). With 43 categories to choose from my quest is on.:)
Tonnage is a very misleading number, although perhaps not as much so as number of ships. "Pwnage", however, isn't quite a category that can be estimated anywhere, and so you will not get much score for it even if your fleet of one 475 kt frigate utterly beats the pants off of the combined fleet of dozens of more advanced and much larger ships at the same time. My primitive unarmed scout frigates are routinely able to defeat more advanced dreads and battleships packing L51 guns in single combat through the simple expedient of ramming them, while an ARMED frigate can mow through countless numbers of enemies through the expedient of superior range combined with superior speed thanks to my racial ability of psychotic driving. Superior Range + Superior Speed = autowin. It worked for Mongolians and it can work for you.» Vous devez vous identifier ou créer un compte pour écrire des commentaires

Thoughts Please
Playing around with the "Score Weighting" data file revealed this. With 43 listed categories, only 14 are used for generating your score. The range is from 1 to 200 (tech lvls). I was suprised to see things like "Number of Colonies" = 0 while "Total Mothballed Ship Tonnage" = 2.
Maybe I am misreading how this works, if not, I certainly think "we" can build a better file. Any thoughts? Thank you.
