Jerky Mouse

Soumis par Vermithrax le Jeu, 2006-11-30 23:37 Space Empires V General

The 1.17 bug thread is so long now I despair of following a conversation in it.

More apparant glitches:

1. Jerky mouse. This happens to me in the ship report screen.

2. Sometimes the game minimizes. At first i thought this was supposed to happen if things sat idle too long. But, no, this has happened several times now when I am actively doing something in the game.

3. Maybe not a bug, but highlighting a queue in the queue list does not select it. You have to click on the radio button to do that. i would like to see clcking anywhere on a line (which highlights that line) be equated with selction. That would make things flow a bit smoother.

Anyone have suggestions on 1 or 2?

I have the jerky mouse when

Soumis par spacedragon le Ven, 2006-12-01 03:56

I have the jerky mouse when running in windows mode but not in fullscreen - its not playable for me in windows mode because of it. Afraid to play with the drivers as all my 3d first person shooters and MMO RPG games work fine, so I don't think it's a fault on my PC.

Heh heh, I hear that!

I don't have a suggestion, but I can confirm this as well. However, for me, it only happens on the initial screen, before I've pushed any of the main menu buttons. Once I push a button (which is difficult, as the mouse is hard to get on top of it!), then everything is fine from then on.

Also, for me, the jerkiness doesn't happen on the logo screens, before the main menu is displayed.

I've never had this happen in full screen mode.

Different for me, too

I also get the jerky mouse problem, but it's on all menus once in a game. It's the worst in Ship Design and Research. I very much suspect it has to do with the number of pictures, or the amount of text, that is held in Video Memory while the menu is up.

On a similar note, my average framerate without a menu up is a whoping 35 FPS, which is well below what my computer's usual 60-70 FPS on recent games. So this compounds the jerky mouse problem.

FPS

Soumis par Rilbur le Ven, 2006-12-01 18:09

... 30 FPS should be plenty. The average human eye percieves smooth motion at about 25-30 FPS.

In theory it should, but it doesnt work like that. These calculation have to take other factors in consideration. Just watch something at 25 and 60 fps, the diference is obvious.

Actually, no it isn't. There is a REASON I said "average". You, Sir, are one of the wierd guys out there who require higher amounts to percieve fluid motion, unlucky you. I, on the other hand, can percieve fluid motion at as low as 15 (though the diff between 15 and 25 is obvoius if, and only if, I go looking for it).

Heck, I can operate at 3-5 FPS... and have in the past. Of course, I don't LIKE it... but I can.

30 FPS isn't fun for precision

Soumis par Thy Reaper le Ven, 2006-12-01 19:01

I like when things are running at 40 or more FPS. Below that and I can start to see the seperate frames. I can feel the slow speed of the interface without menus, and it's much worse with the menus, being only 20-25 FPS. This is horribly choppy to me, and very hard to deal with endlessly.
