How is multiplayer coming along?? |
Is the multiplayer game working now with 1.17?
I'm looking forward to multiplayer having the kind of community that it had in SEIV.
I still wonder if multiplayer PBEM games are the only really plausible option for games with a dozen players and will they continue to months and months??
Thanks,

shouldn't be too hard to find a game in there.
I've played about a dozen multiplayer games since the 1.08 patch. 1.17 is nice and stable and mp works very smoothly with it.
Been using se5a's pbftp program with a ftp server i setup on my own computer. Works pretty good for 2-4 players.
PBEM Security
I'm curious as to how secure PBEM Security is and if there is a function that keeps the "Host" honest? Have to say I was deeply disappointed with SE4's pathetic security for the host. Looked like he was doing the rerun cheat with impunity and regularity. Plus is there a way to keep hosts from "shaping the battlefield" to ensure victory? Had my host shape the battlefield on me with some custom mapping and won't even touch SE5 PBEM if this problem still exists. PBEM play should be made secure so one host player can't cheat to the detriment of the nonhosters who have to play straight and honest.
Best PBEM security I saw made it so that one player could not make his moves and then check results and replot his moves if problems arose in the first run. The program would do the calculations after the first player was done but then the second player was the first to open the file and he couldn't change the outcome no matter how many reruns he tried. Finally after the second player plotted his moves did the first player see the prior turn's outcome. It was very nice to have an honest PBEM game.
