Crashing on selecting video selection of 2560x1600 |
Hi,
I've had this crash since verion 1.0 and I thought maybe by 1.13 it would have gotten fixed...
when I go to setup, and then to change Video Mode, and then select 2560x1600 in the video modes and hit okay, close, and hit play.
the screen blanks for two seconds... then my desktop comes back and I get the following error message.
Exception Exception in module se5.exe at 0007E424. TXDirectX.StartAll - Create 3D device unrecongnized Error.
and then it gives me,
Access violation at address 00405928 in module 'se5.exe'. Read of address 7228B284.
I was wondering if has been reported yet.
I'm runing a dual Opteron 280, with 4gigs, and a atx1900xt. Windows xp, with sp2. and all the latest patches. my ati driver is version 6.14 which just came out.
Thanks,
Koji
I read somewhere on here
I read somewhere on here that the game has problems with dual processor systems. Try running it with only one processor (don't ask me how, but i know it's possible), and see if it works then.
To run a program on a single
To run a program on a single processor you have to set its 'Affinity'. The only way (that I know) to do this is to open the program then pull up Task Manager and under the Processes tab find se5.exe. You should be able to right click the process and set its affinity - the problem is you have to do this each time the program is run (as far as I know). There might be some software utilities out there that allow you to set affinity globally for certain programs, but I don't know for sure.

Guessing
I'm goign to GUESS the reason its never gotten fixed is because its never been reported as no one else runs at that resolution, so its never been tested (it *is* a little high).
I'd suggest a workaround of trying to run at 1/2 that resolution (1280x800). That should avoid any graphical glitches from trying to map 3 pixels over 2 or anything equally unpleasant.
There are 10 types of people in the world:
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
In that case, i suggest you
In that case, i suggest you send an e-mail to se5 at malfador dot com, detailing the problem. Don't expect a fix too soon though, as I suspect the game-breaking bugs will have priority at this point. You may just have to put up with the lower resolutions for a while.
Re: Crashing on selecting video selection of 2560x1600
I've been getting similar things. I think it has something to do with directx 9.0c apr release because thats the only thing i've changed since it stopped working. I've been running it at 1280*768*32 ever since i got it. that and i got the 1.35 release, but i hope thats not the issue. so i'm not sure what to do about it.
Update: Regardless of resolution it still crashes, and i've reverted to an old directx and it still doesn't work. I don't understand what the problem is, i'm going to try giong back to 1.33 or an earlier version.
Re: Crashing on selecting video selection of 2560x1600
I am getting pretty much the same crash when attempting to run at native res 2560x1600
This is on SE5 v1.74 using Vista Home 32, 4 gigs, Intel quad 6600, nVidia 9800gx2.
Exception Execution in module se5.exe at 00074BC2. TTXDirectX.StarlAll - Create 3D Device Unrecognized Error.

How can you even see
How can you even see anything at that resolution?
I doubt the core engine would support such a high resolution anyway.
