Now that we are playing the demo, what is the status or timeline on a gold announcement?
Is the demo a larger beta test (a "gamma test")?
Is it the final "demo" that will be around ad-infinitum, when I refer my friends to this game?
The game is available for pre-order at gamestop.com, with pre-order release on 10/5?
Any official announcements?

Tim had commented a few places before, didn't say anything about gold status.

September 8th?? That's really bad news. when was the Demo created? I have been hoping that many of the bugs would be fixed in the initial release.

First of all, the demo is not the same as the final game, a lot of stuff was removed from the demo. Second, We will have a patch for the game launch to fix anything we have found over the last 2 months.

It's good to hear that there will be an immediate patch. it has been common practice with the SE series to offer limited and decontented demos. Do you know if the decontenting process added additional bugs?

There'll be like 5 or 6 weeks worth of bug fixing occuring before you get the game, so a patch should be available right away.

It'd likely get a patch on release no matter what, just because of the delay between Gold and production.
The fact that this forum is the ONLY indication that its gone gold, and I found out from another company's forum is..worrying, though.

I gotta ask, what determines if a game goes gold. and how does one go gold before being released. guess Im just a wee bit confused.
gold means "finished"
it's not like the music industry "going platinum", where it takes 1 million sold copies(or whatever), in the computer industry "going gold" just means the game is *finished*, and ready to be mass produced for distibution

Thanks, that was creating some confusion on my part. LOL
well i cannot wait to get my hands on that game. Buggy or not. I have been playing space empires since I first discovered the demo of SE III, i dont even know how many years ago. I bought my first copy of SE IV almost as soon as it came out also several years ago. I am somewhat new to the online community but I am hoping to getting into modding and the creation of shipsets and races. So who knows maybe you will all see more of me yet.
