Cant even play one Turn Because of fatal error HELP!!

Soumis par Jorgman le Dim, 2006-11-12 09:14 Space Empires V General

I managed to acquire SEV, i already patched it to Version 1.13 but i cant even play one turn because when i click in a menu the game crashes and the blue screen of death appears and only by restoring the windows to a early restore point did i managed to fix that prob. I tried everything, instaled and reinstaled once ore twice and nothing, always the same error i can start the game create designs but when i want to test the designs, imagine what? Blue Screen of death. I read somewhere that it is because of the processor being a Dual core, is this right?
If anyone knows any solutions please help or if one has the same prob please post it here so that some Genius solve it?

Thanks for reading this please Help.

Dual Core

Soumis par Rilbur le Dim, 2006-11-12 09:23

If you are running a dual core, hit control-alt-delete right after starting the game up. There is a place in the task manager menu to control the "affinity" (I think thats the word) of programs to cores. Just uncheck SEV's affinity for one of the cores.

I don't have a dual-core, so I haven't had to do that myself, but thats the workaround.

It's not a dual core prob

I tried what you said with no luck i still have the same prob, the same blue screen still apears, in the blue screen it reads that the prob was provoced by the nv4_disp.dll file, then in the bottom of the screen the following message apears: Copying the fisical memory to disc, and a timer apears right next to it! Dont know what to do. If anyone know the solution please help.

nv4_disp.dll is an nVidia

nv4_disp.dll is an nVidia graphics card driver file - have you updated your graphics driver's recently?

Stupid

Soumis par Rilbur le Lun, 2006-11-13 23:41

I feel stupid. I thought you were getting an error, not the dreaded BSOD.

BSOD = hardware or drivers issue, 99.999% of the time.

I'd say what you're desribing is just plain weird... oh, and it helps to write down the error message when you see it, since teh difference between "physical" and "fisical" is pretty big to some of us Laughing out loud

As Carlos said, try updating your video card drivers. Feel free to PM me a copy of your directx diagnostic file, I'd be glad to go over it and see if I can spot anything, but I'm going to bet (judging from the file) that its a video card issue. Try the following:

Download the most recent nVidia drivers.
Uninstall your current video drivers.
Reboot.
Install the drivers downloaded earlier.
Reboot again.

At that point you'll probably have a couple bazilion things to fix, like your screen resolution (windows defaults to the smallest resolution when it doesn't have any drivers) and the resulting desktop dis-array. Try and boot the game and see what happens.

Oh, and are you sure its a timer, and not something like 0x000BA5C3 ? (an 0x followed by 8 alphanumeric characters)
