Points?????

I wish I could, all I know is that I seem to be fairly quickly rise through the ranks. Are these points going to be some sort of site ranking system?

I hope not - that would just encourage people to post useless drivel!
If a ranking was required, it would be better to have peer-rankings with users assigning points to posts of value, but that sort of system suffers from apathy \o/

SuicideJunkie proposed a good idea where your ratings for each member were private and that you could weigh different categories (like if they made books or mod groups etc) to produce your own unique rating for each member depending on what you valued.

I'd prefer no public rating system because they always end up getting someone upset that there ranked low for "no reason" or things of that sort.

All the points are is just how many posts you've made. To introduce any sort of prize would simply invite people to post crap.
Please keep the points as a 'useless' entity so that there is no incentive to spam.

The points system will remain a benign way to gauge user participation. There are no immediate plans to make it any form of currency or whatnot.. doing so would likely require comments and posts to undergo moderation.
