Weapon Mounts |
Can I add new stat effects to weapon mounts. I'd like to make some with a little variety... One that increases the reload speed of weapons and one that can increase the range of the weapon. It would be nice if there was a way to add Shield and Shield regens to the weapon mounts.

You can increase ranges with "Component - Weapon Range". Take a look at the various Base Mounts. I tried changing the reload rate today and SE5 didn't like it, so I guess we'll have to wait on that one.

Faster reload
You could just make another weapon that is the gattling version, and make it have a fast reload and lower damage... Pretty cool idea, I'd love to see that in the combat screen.

Capships
Well, my "capships" mod is going to give capital ships weapons that work like that...
Conceptually, they'll be almost identical to the weapons given to smaller ships, only they'll be so large tonnage wise as to be unusable on the smaller ships (500KT max hull size for smallcraft, Vs. 10,000KT minimum for capships). As a tradeoff for the increased size they'll have a large punch (not a much larger punch, but noticeably so) and somewhere around 10X the fire rate. And the supply ussage will actually be higher, though thats balanced out by the fact that capships will carry a LOT more in the way of supplies.
I could go on for hours on the mod, just gotta get the darned thing written... and then figure out how to write an AI for it, bleh.

Spinal mount
I've made the spinal mount, currently it's a bit unbalanced. But I always loved the idea of a ship being built around a single weapon. These smaller ships flying around with a big punch. Maybe a balancing part might be that you have to have a supply ship flying in the fleet...
The other thing that needs work is that when you upgrade weapons with a mount, and increase the damage they do - there needs to be a change in the graphic for that weapon fire. I have these massive damage weapons fire looking like a little blip on the screen. Anyone know if the weapon mount could change the weapons fire graphic?

You can effect the weapon graphic by working with the "bitmapeffects_spacecombat.txt" file I changed width and heigth, and got a larger bolt, I set mine to 5.00... But I think you'll still need to make a special weapon to make changes like this, You currently wont be able to make these types of changes with weapon mounts...
Stock weapons mounts
At the moment stock weapons mounts increase the range and power of the mounted weapon quite considerably. With the increase in both being proportional to the tech of the mount, but x 4 range and +100% damage for a TL1 heavy mount on a ship by way of an example.
My favourite ship is my Wraith a TL10 light hull with two TL10 heavy mounts and TL15 cloaking mounting TL23 phased polaron beams. The lucky enemies are the ones which don’t see it as I use it as a covert scout and blockade runner its other feature is TL31 sensors and tachyon scanners. Ok it’s not going to survive getting caught by a battle ship but it’s minced every other frigate or destroyer that’s found it so far
Mounts also make direct fire batteries on planets worth while.

I recall on SEIV that MM added more variables as patches went by. I wouldn't be suprised if he added more to SEV including all that you mentioned above. I too am looking forward to proper gattling mounts and heavy mounts that can be attached to single weapons.
One really effective variable to add would be beam length, so you could have your 'cutter' beam that fires for ages.
