Why in god's name does it take sooooo long to process a multiplayer turn and send the files. It makes playing a lan game painfully slow especially in the early turns when you aren't doing much. The save file it moves isn't that big so why does it take forever. Civ 4 processes a turn in seconds at most. Early SE5 turns take an easy 20-30 seconds...i can't even imagine the late game turns.
Sorry bout all the whining but i like this game single player but can't deal with the slowness of mp. Is this just the way the game runs or is this my problem and fixable?

Not that slow
I personally don’t think it’s that slow to be honest and whilst I have a good machine its not stellar in performance and generally running a lot of other stuff in the background.

Turn Time
O.o That isn't slow. For TBS, thats lightning fast these days.
And if you're wondering, its because the AI has FAR more to check than in civilization games. Think about all the options available in SEV, that aren't in Civ.

Slow downs
There's usually a slow down in the early game when the AI is surveying systems. After that the speed is ok until the AIs start engaging in combat and things of that sort.

Well guys I have a very fast
Well guys I have a very fast machine 2 Gig of ram etc etc......My last LAN game 3 MP's and 3 AI on a medium map and turns were taking like 15-20 minutes.
Big problem and if you ask me makes MP games unplayable. Funny but with 1.08 I found it much faster in turn resolution. Then again the minister bug was the killer on that patch 
Keep the patches coming M&M as MP really needs some help 
AI's
The slow-down is entirely from the AIs, so if you're not using them MP games are playable. Seems to have come from something in the last patch, so hopefully the next will fix that.

hmmm I guess we could try a game with no AI's. What about Neutral Empires (never seen them yet) would they cause these massive slow downs?

An AI is an AI, the only thing disabled about nuetrals is their ability to go to other systems.

Don't bother with neutrals
I'd never turn neutrals on at all, myself. They're not much more than speed bumps.

I havn't been playing MP but I've had problems with turn speed in single player. if the AI's have enough resources they build massive groups of fighters and place them at WP's and this really slows down the game. I have had some luck in improving the situation by doing the Following.
Change the vehicleunittypes.txt file by removing "can be in fleets" from the abilities and cange the numbers of the abilities to reflect this change.
you can also change "Maximum In Space Per Player Per Sector := 10000" to a more suitable number like 100 or so. this reduces the number of fighters wandering around in AI systems which so far has helped turn speed drop from 20 minutes to something more like 2-3 minutes.

I disagree with Civ4 being fast. Both games quickly grind to a halt when they are huge with lots of players and units. SE4 is much faster now on newer computers so I may go back.

There will likely be optimizations in future patches, but yeah its slow your not the only one unhappy about the turn processing speed.
