Putting myself on the market...sic |
Let me put it this way, I'm bored. Really really bored. I need a project to keep my mind active and SE series has always been a good way to keep my brain from stalling.
When the game gets released they'll be a rush of mods & mini mods. I will be looking to assist and hopefully join a production team for one of the larger projects.
If you've already got an ambitious project in mind (and know how you are going to tackle it!) then drop me a PM.

I have a few ideas: * A mod
I have a few ideas:
* A mod based on MOO2 (and the few good parts from MOO3
* A mod based on Stars! (another 4X game)
* A remake of the Highliner Mod (a mod for SE4 with super-sized starships and "riders" which were like fighters but did so much more than fight) - we could really take advantage of the custom vehicle types and have highliners which launch riders which launch fighters which launch scatterpack drones which launch missiles!
* A super-low-tech mod where each "star system" is a planetary system with a planet in the center instead of a star, and moons instead of planet orbiting it; each planet could additionally be split into multiple "continents" across the 6 sectors surrounding the center of the system (not sure if stock ringworlds will do this or not, or we might have to make custom "planets" which are just "slices" of a planet!) plus a "core" with a damaging ability (but successfully drilling into and destroying the core destroys everything in the system, much like destroying a star does!)

Game over, boys!

If you're bored at the moment, start a bunch of shipsets.
With it being a new game an all, there won't be many to start with, and goodness knows I adore well-done shipsets

World Class Ships
David Weber also wrote some books that used SuperDreadnaughts and Monitor Ships which (if I remember right) were even bigger than the SuperDreadnaughts.
Monitor Ships would have tremendous Fire Power and Shields but would be very slow( say maybe being able to move only 1 hex at a time).
The SuperDreadnaughts would nought be as powerful but would be faster.

Other Weber Book Series
That was based on the game Starfire, that he wrote for Taskforce games. He wrote 4 books based on the game. Starfire was one of MM many inspirations for Space Empires.

2 questions.
First, are warp points still able to stack in SE V?
Second, If they are would it be possible to make it so that the warp points can only be opened in 1 sector of the system map?

Books based on the game
While I have read the books and I know of the game, I was not aware that the books were based on the game.
However it might still be interesting to try world class ships.

Stacking Warp Points?
I can think of a few evil things to do if you could "stack" warp poitns one-on-top of the other... (You thinking of HH's Wormhole junctions, by any chance?)
Could make for an interesting variation if you had "junctions" like that in addition to the regular WPs, and had them be extra-long-range things (halfway across the map instead of neighboring stars).
There are 10 types of people in the world:
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.

Similar Idea...

I used a similar concept to implement the major hyperspace trade routes for a SE4 SW galaxy map. Instead of warp points on opposite sides of the systems, I placed them either on top of each other, on in adjacent squares. I did this for the entire length of the 3-4 hyperlanes, so you could get from one side of the map to another fairly quickly, and still stop off at all the systems in-between. For non-hyperlane travel, I placed the warp points normally (i.e. really far apart).

I was thinking more along
I was thinking more along the lines of the Borg Transwarp Nexus, but warppoint junctions works. I also want to see if I can limit warp points to 1 sector in the system, and to have them collapse after every use, so that travel is more 1 way and that means travel would require a civilization building a network of "stargates" so to speak. For example editing the open warp point tech to not require any movement, just alot of supply. and incorporating it into a starbase not unlike the ORI supergate in Stargate SG-1

Mod Help
Well currently I have planned to produce a Honor Harrington Mod, based on the books by David Weber. Also a Star Fleet Battles Mod based on the table top game by Amarillo Design Bureau. I have also contemplated a Starfire like mod, but I'm sure there is someone else out there who might get to it before I do.
I'm sure I'm going to need help testing, and writting AI for the mods, testing the concepts, and general bug wrangling. Also I have no modeling talent, so any ships/images I might need, I will have to get from other interested parties...
I currently have a couple of excel files full of ideas, lists, tables and such for both mods, and I try an add, or organize them every chance I get.
I'm sure I will keep you first in my mind when I need some help.
