Looks like you are correct, though personally I am more interested in bug fixes and balanceing at this point (for god sakes would someone please make point defenses at least somewhat effective?). Hopefully they will get to tcp sometime soon.
Also, I wish they would add a way to start a game directly from the command line enter its password, and player number. I really miss this functionality from se4.
Agreed, but...
I do agree the core game is the most important aspect to get fixed up... however I would hope that huge MP showstoppers (like not being able to reload a saved game) would get equal attention as that makes MP relatively pointless unfortunately. Most SE games go much longer than 1 sitting
It essentially removes that part of the game for those that are interetsed in MP or bought SE5 exclusively to play with friends.

Game is more important than MP
I agree that the core game should be fixed before the multiplayer is fixed. I'm sure there are plenty of people, myself included, that would play singleplayer almost exclusively, so the game itself should be fixed as much as possible first.
There seems to be a problem with Total Targetted Damage, and it's possible that PD is suffering as a result. As far as I've seen, all PD will fire at a single missle. Personally, I think PD should be the kind of weapon that will hit the first enemy missile it comes in contact with, regardless of if it was targetted at that one. Might help this problem.

there is also the fact that PD won't fire at fighters at all unless manually targetted.
What problems with MP
As I have posted a detailed MP step by step on how to set up a MP game and run it, I am note sure what issuses you may be having as I am having NONE. I repeat, I have NO issuse with MP working on two seperate PC's (this includes loaded saved games). If you could explain in more detail what your issuea are, then maybe I can help.

A "fix"
A current (modder-end) PD fix is to change teh PD to do 1/10th the damage but fire 10 times as fast, reducing the overkill.

Thanks for the offer of help... here's the problem a number of people are seeing.
When trying to load a saved TCP game, the remote players are never able to reconnect to the host. The host computer loads the saved file in "host" mode (I forget the exact wording of the question that is asked). The host computer gets to the main screen (the summary screen where you would normally hit process turn) and appears to wait for the remote players to connect. The problem occurs when the remote players try to connect (input the host IP address) but consistantly get the "Unable to connect" message...thus never able to get reconnected to the host to continue.

Yes, there are.
Numdydar, are you just ignoring people? As cyclone said, you can't load MP saved games. When asked if you are loading somehow you simply ignored him and repeated that there are no problems with MP. Which, until you prove that a game can be loaded, there are.
The other bugs all have workarounds, I can wait for fixes to minster etc. But no loading saved games needs to be fixed NOW, first priority. Other bugs you can work around or aren't that bad, no loading basically means you can't play MP, period, because no one wants to start and not finish a game.

Sorry I have been away a bit. The way I work MP is by manually transfering the playe and game files between the host PC and the Player PC. This is the ONLY method I have used that will work consistantly. The system where the files transfer automaticly does NOT work.
So to play MP with the game in it's current state (v1.13), you either play hot seated or manually transfer the files as I have described before. After the 1st turn, you no longer have any need for anyone to connect to the host PC again as the player files should be moved to the player PC's after the host has run the turn. So the files are loaded from the Player PC's not the Host.
So again a brief repeat of the steps needed.
All players connect to host.
Create/load empires and run 1st turn on the host.
Transfer player files to player PC's.
Load game on player PC, play turn and save game when done.
Transfer all player files to host PC and load gave with 'as Host' setting
Have host execute game and transfer newly created player files back to player PC's
