CD Required? And a few more questions... |
I've checked out the demo and really like the depth of this game, but before I buy, I have a few questions...
Is the CD required to be in the drive while playing the retail boxed version of SE5? If so, I think I may go with the Steam version.
How long was the turnaround on Valve getting the patch into to the Steam version?
Also, how is the manual in the boxed version?

steam
patches are released almost on the same time for cd version and steam one
The Manual is 77 pages A3
The Manual is 77 pages A3 size. I would call it adequate. Its not as good as the manual with Space Empires IV. The PDF manual is a lot better. I would have paid more money if the game had been supplied with it in printed form.
scaseman, can you please
scaseman, can you please clarify?
You said that the pdf manual is a lot better, but then in the next sentence said you'd have paid more if it were printed.
????
Does this mean you bought the Steam version of the game, but now wish you'd have paid a bit more and bought the box version of the game to get the printed version?
Sorry I could have explained
Sorry I could have explained better. I Live in the U.K. I bought a boxed copy direct from Strategy First including a free download of Starfury. What I mean about the PDF manual is it a lot to print out at home. 300 pages would use up £20.00 worth of ink plus the paper. I would rather have paid more money to get it commercially printed in a nice manual. I remember the good old days when games where in huge boxes with large manuals. Now everyone use PDF which although is a good system is not quite the same. Hopefully someone will produce a HTML manual like the one with Space Empires IV.

No CD req'd to play
You don't need to have the CD in the drive to the run the game.
The .pdf manuals are the same, but the box version has a smaller condensed manual but I haven't seen it myself.
