What is a book? |
The book content type is suited for creating structured, multi-page hypertexts such as site resource guides, manuals, and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). It permits a document to have chapters, sections, subsections, etc. A book may be collaborative, but doesn't have to be. Authors with suitable permissions can add or edit pages in a book, and can arrange and re-order pages within the existing document.
Books have additional navigation elements at the bottom of each page for moving through the text, the previous, up, and next links. The previous and next links will be printed as the titles of the previous and next nodes in the book. Additional navigation may be provided by enabling the book navigation block.

That link eventually says that setting "Parent to {top-level}" will allow the creation of a new book.
Great, but if that had been an option in the parent dropdown, I wouldn't have had to ask...
So, there we have it. Top level is not an option, but needs to be.

Creating a new book?
It is not clear how we would go about creating a new book...
The options I've seen so far all seem to want to make subpages for this page.
Is there a tutorial for this anywhere?
PS:
It also seems that the allowed HTML tags do not include tables or images... such things are quite handy for help files.
Many sorts of comparison charts are best done with a table, and pictures speak a thousand words.
Some others that would be quite useful include:
- The (hr) tag
- Headings (h#)
- Colour/size options (font)
In the interest of avoiding spam-bots, some of these could be restricted to users who have been here a while.
