Is it possible to make a specific solar system your starting position, rather than being chosen at random by the game?

I am British and have bought the (presumably) UK version of Space Empires V but I can't get it to work after installation.

I have tried at least three different UK patche versions but none of them work, with the the error message each time being that I require an older version (of the game or the patch?).

Please advise.

Wouldn't it be great to have a "dark space" mod?

Unfortunately I don't know how to make a mod so If you like Dark space please make the mod without me.
