Some tips for newbies at PBW (facing other players)

I just thought I'd write down a few things that I've learned in my PBW games, which may benifit some of the newer players, and those who are just getting started with PBW.
I must note that I've mainly played with balance mod so far!.

- Migration is not a flavor treaty and is VITAL
Getting migration populations will get natural breathers of other atmospheres in your empire. Scrap your origional population and keep the breather. This will allow you to use every KT available at the world. Not the 'domed quantity'.

- No such thing as too many starbases
It all comes down on how can get the most ships in the front line with the biggest guns. It is NOT a luxury to have worlds with 50 production starbases near the frontline. Long supply lines can kill you. Getting them up and running in the front is important!

Mega Evil Empire and AI benefits

I noticed that when playing singleplayer game while giving AI big bonuses there is a problem iwth mega evil empire.

The best benefits give AI 3x construction speed, and 5x the Intel/research I think.

To stay competitive in research/intel section, you must have then output about 5-6 times to what the AI has. (just to stay even, in tech and intel)

But this extra points can quickly drive you to the MEE levels, and cause the game to be problematic.

I know MEE limit is easy to set in game files, but I think I would prefer some sort of AI benefit alteration to it coded in. If I give AI the 5x point bonus, maybe the score should be based on the actual ai score, instead of the base score. Or maybe a multiplier to MEE because of benefits.

Minister Bug

Me and a bud tried to play a lan game the other day. I was the host, it was a simultaneous and different computer game with one other AI player, but randomly my friend's orders would be changed as if an AI took over. Now I've read that this is known as the minister bug where the ai minister would take over a human player's empire randomly. We're using version 1.08. Has this been fixed in the later patches or is there some way around this?

Social achievements?

Now that I think about it, what benefits do the social achievements research tree bring? In stock and Balance Mod, what are their uses?

Philosophy, civics, education, entertainment... etc. What are they useful for? If at all?
