Help: Modding the Balance Mod

I am trying to modify the Balanced Mod 1.12 in so far that I want to chabge the XiChung into a kind of "Ueber-Race" with threatens the whole galaxy. For this, I wanted to make two changes:
1) Introduce a new racial trait "Bug Traits", which combines several other racial traits and all in all gives a huge advantage. I give this trait a cost of zero, as no other AI will take this.
2) Modify the xichung_main_script.csf and xichung_setup_script.csf to make the XiChung choose "bug traits" during setup and make some minor adjustmnts to gam play

Neither 1) nor 2) seem to work and here is where I need your help.

This function let me control how many engine are on a ship, or count only the specific type of engine?

I want to change the requirement in the VehecleSizes.txt to permit only certain number of ENGINE, not MOVEMENT.

Which function can I use?

Dark Nova 5 and "The Fighter Issue"

Just looking for some suggestions/thoughts on how to deal with 'the fighter issue' in SEV for DN5.

In DN4, many more fighters sizes and items were added (though there is a serious balance issued with DN4.27) in an attempt to make fighters more useful. My intent was to make it so that fighters, though not nessesary, did provide another aspect of combat, as they should.

I want to still maintain that in DN5 but don't want to end up in the situation in Stock where if you are not using fighters, you are toast. Or at least, not using fighters exclusively. I'd like to see a situation where a combination fleet of ships (large and small) and fighters works best.

Satellite Field Wierdness with v 1.66 and BM 1.12

Hi, I finally got around to downloading the new updates and starting a new game,using the gorn custom shipset. Everything plays great except, that I have deployed satellite fields to block my warp points and when they're attacked by the ai, they show damage in the ui and sat. menu but a check of the damaged satellite shows all components undamaged, attempts to repair do nothing. I've noticed that the ai seems to allways fire at the same part of the field,(which is opposite their heading), and the damage to the satellite seems to go up and down almost like its counting damage but the satellite is never destroyed.

Some Questions from a new player

Hello,

Just created an account because I recently discovered SE5. And I must say I really, REALLY like this game.

The situation is this : I played a single game on a large map using v 1.20 (I think) and just recently upgraded to 1.66. I also just started a multiplayer game with a colleague of mine... So this is my second game of SE5, and with no prior exeperience in the SE family I guess I'm a real newbie Smiling

And I, off course, have several questions...

1) Stealing tech: how can you steal a tech from an enemy empire ?? I tried using 'intelligence' but when I get the message 'you stole xxx tech from xxx' I never see it appear in my tech list. So is it possible to even steal a tech from a rival empire ??

Bugger! MASSIVE MASSIVE Mistake!

As you can see from the heading i've made a massive mistake.

Instead of asking for an enemy to surrender, i actually sent them a message saying that i will surrender. I didn't think i did, but at the start of the very next turn, i got a message on the screen saying game over, all human players have been eliminated. I went to the communications screen, and there was a message from me relating to my last turn saying that i wanted to surrender (so i obviously did send it).

I saved the game, at the end of the last turn, and at the end of the turn before that. I don't want to take the whole turn again (lots & lots of diplomacy, ship redesign, battles etc done that turn), is there anyway i can edit the message before i end the turn?
