Resource Converter

I didn't searcht he forums and i probably should have... but oh well.
does anyone use the Resource Converter facility? and how does it work exactly?? i built some but my net resources havn't changed. there doesn't seem to be a wayt o select what resource to change to what... but maybe i'm blind??

Dealing with Missile Drones

Whilst playing multiplayer with someone else, I noticed that he didn't actually build any standard fleet ships in the sense that they're designed to fight off other ships. Rather, he builds freighters with a large bank of drone bays and cargo to back it up. These freighters carry drones that are just engines and a pair of missile launchers. So far I've no luck in combat against him, because what ships I have (even the heavily PD-laden ones I built once I found out) just sit there in the middle while his drone swarms from the freighters skirts around at maximum missile range and saturate PD with a ludicrous amount of fire. For 20 kT of cargo bay of freighter, he could pack 100 kT of missile launchers into the drone and also fly at a very decent clip.

How to remove mines from game?

Hi all,

I should start by saying im really enjoying the game now that 1.58 has fixed most of the major bugs, and with Captain Kwok's BM 1.11 the AI makes for a fun, challenging game.

However, the heavy use of mines is really annoying me (this may only refer more specifically to the Balance Mod) - fair enough to everyone else that likes them as part of the game but personally I hate having to think about minesweepers etc all the time, and having entire fleets decimated seemingly at random moving through warp points etc. As you might remember, SE4 had an option to remove the use of mines in a given game. I can't see any reason why the same option shouldn't be in SE5 but sadly we arnt given that choice any more.

Types of Colonization

Is is possible to use a tech to allow only colonization of breathable planets? I was thinking of creating a new "Domed Colonization" tech to allow colonization of non breathable planets. There would be six Colony components then: Breathable and Domed Colony for each planet type. Anyone know a way to implement it?

Specialized Research Labs

Years ago there was discussion about "specialized research labs" in SE4 - bascially, you have a limited number of tech areas (say, 6 or 8 like in Stars! or MOO2) which grant all kinds of miscellaneous stuff in their broad categories, and no specific techs for individual components, etc. You also have an equal number of types of research labs (biology labs, physics labs, etc.) which can ONLY be used to produce research for their specific area.

Well, I think I came up with a way to implement that in SE5! Laughing out loud

1. Remove the research labs from the game, we don't need them anymore.
2. Consolidate all techs into six or eight or so.

Where do I change the setting for a race's colour that displays on the main galactic map? I have several 'green' races in play right now and I am back to square one,no idea where the borders are.

Warp Storm Wars

With the start of another 6 player PBW game I am looking forward to writing about the in game events...something that Myrath got me hooked on. For those of you who followed Nebula rising and are wondering what has happened to the game/story...well it is still active, but turn times have been very slow over the last 3-4 weeks. I hope this game doesn't slow down just when a huge quadrant wide war is about to break out.

Anyway, For Warp Storm Wars I've prepared some empire flags for the players who wish to write about the game. Just put the image at the top of your post... And please don't edit your posts once they have been posted...it can change the order of the posts(unless that has been fixed)

Mods

Does anyone know where I can find a current version of the Unnamed Mod? The one I downloaded from here doesn't seem to work with version 1.58 (or I am doing something wrong with it). Also, can anyone help me with doing some basic modding myself, or perhaps someone can write a mod or two based on my ideas? One thing I want to do is design my own ship set for my empire/race. I have the designs in my head, but have never really done that sort of thing on a computer. Anyone who can help please send me a message or post a reply, thanks.

Lan game not setting up, help noob

I always get the error msg "Unable to establish provider"

I set it up with Simultaneous movment, different machines, connection type host, and IPX connection

other info- Im just tryn to play a multi player with two comps in the same room, both have the game bought via steam and steam keeps it up to date. I would hate to do it hot seat style but if I have too I will...

Can this game be any slower? I'm running a p4 w/ 2.9 processor and 1 gig RAM with the latest patch and thebalance mod. Game is medium size and medium #empires and about 50 turns into the game. It takes my comp anywhere from 4 to 6 minutes to get thru ONE turn!!! Is this the norm????
