Ground Combat Choppy, and long AI turns. Fixable?Soumis par BoogieMan le Dim, 2007-11-25 02:13 Space Empires V GeneralI've have massive space battles with hundreds of ships and the game runs fine. But ground combat is *extremely* choppy. Taking a planet is really clumsy as it is, this makes me want to just cleanse it from orbit to avoid the hassle, but that goes against the way I want to play. So, any advice on fixing this issue? I have a P4 3.00ghz with Hyperthreading, 2gb RAM, SB Audigy Gamer, and an nvidia GeForce 6800GT. My system is clean of the usual BS and is tweaked as much as I can get it. Defragged Hard Drive, no heat issues, all drivers updated and the game is patched to 1.63. Also, some 100 turns into the game even on smaller galaxies with less AIs, their turns start to take quite a long time. I have to do a lot more with so many ships and such to manage, so my turns take long enough but the addition of the AI's time makes the game slow to a tedious crawl. Also, if I enable ministers the Processing after all players is tripled in duration and the music loops every 6 seconds or so during. |
Files Missing???Soumis par Non-Terrestrial le Dim, 2007-11-25 03:50 Space Empires V GeneralOkay, took a break, 1.63 out so I get it and try this game again, with my few custom made races I made using my own race portraits but the existing shipsets. Never had this problem before but now I get crashes out to desktop with some script error, could not find... Then snooping around the empire directories, I noticed one thing I hadn't before... in ANY (including default empires included with game) ANY racename_AI_Main.txt file there is a line refering to a bitmap as follows... Image Unit Main Texture := racename\racename_Unit_Main_Texture.bmp This Unit_Main_Texture.bmp file is no where to be found in any empire directory, including the default empires with game. I just noticed this, but wonder what else the game's text files refer to that are no where to be found in the game's directories... like those dam *** script.csf files that I have no idea how to read let alone edit for my own custom races. For all I know the game (1.63 now) is now looking for a text file in the data directory that isn't there. |

The First are the Xel'naga who I think are currently number 2 out of the 5 empires left. It s a race of scientists who have a strong alliance with the Mry'sadat The Second are the Assiricans who are a smaller empire of battle lizards. They are currently being player by Disco-stu of the Shiite empire so it is safe to say they have a strong alliance with the shiite. Though this empire is 5th out the 5 empires left it is of great importance due to it's position in the quadrant and by no means is it in a bad state. |
Warp points, AI, shipsets, and multiplayerSoumis par General Mengsk le Dim, 2007-11-25 13:22 Space Empires V GeneralI just got Space Empires 5 a little while ago, and I wanted to ask a few questions. I like to play a peculiar little mode in which there's no warp points in the map, forcing players to manipulate warp point defenses and warp point generators to secure key systems while extending their reach of power to other systems, while at the same time preventing their opponents from getting a foothold in the galaxy through such tactics as sending small military detachments to establish a foothold in an enemy system, then building a warp point defense. Anyway, that led me to a couple questions. First of all, if a system has no warp points and that building that prevents warp points from being constructed and there's no contact with that race because that system is the only system that player holds, is there any way to get to that player? |

I then started thinking...(scary isnt it) Have a few power systems and based off the power system your using it dictates your research. maybe dictates isnt the right word, but I will explain along the way. Level one power suply would be liquid based fuel. not gass, but chemical based reaction. This would require fuel storage and levels would have a synergy bonus to planetary napalm. The next level would be high output radiation generators. This would allow more space on your ships because you dont need liquid fuel and lets say if you have more then 2 reactors it generates depleted uranium supplies, if you have a munitions supply. |
1.63 Problem - AutocompleteSoumis par Gothic Knight le Dim, 2007-11-25 17:55 Bug ReportsI had the Steam version of this game installed, and went out and bought the box version. Uninstalled the Steam, installed the box, and patched with v1.63. After setting up the game the way I wanted to play, I went in and started to design a ship. I usually design 1 attack ship as an explorer, and 1 colony design to start with. I just autocomplete them. Well, it doesn't work now. I click the autocomplete, the menu pops up for ship type, I select Attack, click ok. Then it doesn't fill in the ship at all. Do I need to do all the patches one by one from begining to latest for the game to work properly? Am I doing something wrong? Would greatly appreciate any help. |

And mines same kind of question, wouldnt a ship be a better move or is it more of a early stage part of the game? I guss if you researched it crazy and waited to use them it would throw the AI off and be just the trick you are looking for but research time/ build time...wouldnt it be better to just have another big ship or a fleet of drones or other |
