The War of Three Suns

The War of Three Suns
By Adam Milton
5/7/2008

****
This is a short story, written like a historical text, using the stock races (And one custom race that I normally play as) and a Mod that I am working on, as players in this conflict and a setting for the conflict. I hope you all enjoy it.
****

It was the Humans who coined the term, while it has grown in popularity over the last few years many still prefer the moniker “War of Three Suns” instead of the more pessimistic “The First Interstellar War”.

Whatever you may call it, everyone agrees that the blood shed could not have been avoided, though letting it go on for as long as it did, even after so much loss, was the biggest mistake.

Quest for Glory: Preparing to Invade

This is a copy of an e-mail I sent to my PBEM opponents; they are rookies (some to 4X, too), so my goal was to give them some thought-starters on what they should be doing with their empires.

I bumped into an AI that got annoyed with my surveys of what turned out to be his home system; I held his side of the warp point for several turns but ultimately lost my fleet there. I'm about to launch an offensive into his space...

----------------
Grand Admiral Belisarius looked out the viewport; a large hull floated in the orbital space year. The first of the Argo-class light carriers was nearing completion. It would help carry the battle back to the Cue Cappa Commonwealth…as would the battle frigates clearing slipways around the Empire. One of the iron-clad rules he had put in place was that every space yard's first build order was the construction of a space yard space station. The Byzantine Empire now had a burgeoning economy and considerable space yard capacity, though the minerals treasury had been nearly drawn down to empty as the initial rush of expansion consumed vast quantities of materials in the race to build facilities on new colonies.

Endless Hunger

Any observer in orbit above the Arachnid homeworld would not see much out of place. From space it didn't appear much out of the ordinary. An oxygen rich atmosphere, large continents, matched with even larger oceans, it could belong to any race. Zoom in and the endemic pollution across the planet became apparent, but this was only slightly out of the ordinary as many races were also prone to overexploitation. Indeed in most cases it was this very problem that drove a race to expand out into space, to live and grow after their birthplace was so damaged as to threaten extinction if the occupants didn't escape. An observer would not miss that the landmasses were covered in a drab grey that seemed to grow out into all directions, only stopping when it reached water, and even then sometimes reaching out to occupy the shallows. Zoom in further and discover why. Cities. Vast expansive cities, seemingly organic, erasing all competition as it expanded. Unlike the habitation of other races it did not reach for the sky, at least not in the sense that another race might. For another race growth upwards was due to lack of land. Land must be left to grow crops or, in the especially impractical cases, nature left to watch over. To offer some escape into nature from the incessant urban sprawl that came with an industrial society. A sacrifice to a need to observe beauty while going on with a being's life.

Interstellar Wars

It is said that the Ukra Tak have been plagued by wars since their journey into space but they are rarely the aggressors. This may be true but in this case, they created the circumstances for war.

In 2405, the Ukra Tak Collective have expanded to the extent that they already have 80 planets spanning ten star systems. This expansion has brought them into range of the Terran Federation. The Humans have now colonised 15 planets spanning three systems.

In 2406, The Ukra Tak forge a treaty with the Terrans. In exchange for trade and technology, the Humans will allow the Ukra Tak to colonise planets within Federation borders.

Nebula Storm

[i]IN THE BEGINNING...

The young planets began as a twinkle in the Nebula's eye, along with the asteroids, meteors, comets -through the tendency of matter to clump together, ever more until finally there were substantial bodies, the planets and their moons, sweeping up all left-overs in their orbits. During this era, approximately one billion years long, the newly-borning planets were pummeled mercilessly by these left-overs. This was the so-called "Hadean Period", a "hell-ish" time indeed, when the planets surfaces were periodically broiled, flash-fried. Incoming asteroids of sufficient size would vaporize themselves and where they impacted, would turn into a seering plasma that would tsusami around the planet.

A moment in time. (Krenim timeline 4064)

TO: Captain Vres (Comamnding TS 138)
FROM: Commander Mel't (Chief Historian, TS 138)
RE: Imperium timeline 4064. Focal points.

Report dated, timedate 2403.2 1649.

It is the purpose of this report, along with following updates, to establish a procedure for the implementation of timeline 4065 (If deemed appropriate).

Detailed records of previous events can be found [Crosslink: Imperium Timeline 4063].For the record these events will be briefly covered. Following the implementation of Temporal incursion 4063 the Imperium was discovered to be reduced to the level of a 63% restoration on timedate 2370. Observation was established and the Imperium continued it's growth to reach a 74% restoration. At timedate 2400 the Imperium encountered a species called the Devore [Crosslink: Devore 4063]. In previous timelines this species and it's empire was known to the Imperium however they were contained some distance from the Imperium proper. Due to events theorised to be related to incursion 4063, and surprsingly 2041, 3023, and 3723. The Devore Imperium of this timeline was substantially more expansionist. Observation was continued but Devore success lead to a reduction of the Imperium to an 18% restoration. At this stage a temporal incursion focused on the Devore species was authorised.

Rise of the Helion Federation

HELION DATALINKS NETWORK - DESCRIPTION: The Helions Federation

Biological Description
The Citizens of the Helion Federation are descendants of the old Terran Empire. Luckyly, they settled down on Planets with fresh-water, clean air and paradise-like conditions in an isolated sector of the galaxy. On their paradise-like colonies, they had enough time and space to improve eagerly their physical, psychological, rational and social abilities.

Society Description
The Helion Society is one of the most open and tolerant societies in the galaxy. This led to the fact, that some races envy them for their social stability and standards. Helion Diplomats are often welcomed in critical disputes. They are renowned for their fair diplomatic flair. The Helion Federation is governed by the helion senate and the federal council.

The Terran imperium

2400.0
After a century on New Earth, settled 200 years after the lose of Earth, we are finally ready to begin expanding into the galaxy. We have already begun construction on our Abduction and Aberration class colony ships, to colonize the Rock and Ice class worlds in the Osshod system.

2400.2
It appears that we were not the first people to settle in this system, our new colony on Osshod IV has uncovered ancient ruins. As such we are now able to build massive planetary shield generators, they will defiantly be of use in protection our territory.

2401.2
Now that we have colonized all the Ice and Rock planets in this system it is now time to begin expanding into the systems beyond the warp points. As such two Abhorrent class Explorers to survey the systems on the other side, and find suitable planets for our future colonies.
