This is ridiculous |
I paid for this game, all $40 dollars of it thinking it would be a fun game to play for significant amounts of time. I was hoping a game would keep me entertained for at least a couple of weeks whenever I felt just like playing a video game for a few hours.
Wow was I wrong. I am probably 200 turns into a game, maybe more, and the damn game keeps crashing. I get to the screen where it says "Processing player turns" or whatever it is. I dint pay money to deal with this bullshit.
I now wish I bought this game from EB instead of that damned Steam because I want nothing to do with this game and I want my cash back. Its fun while you are playing it but if I cant play the game for any significant length of time its worthless. Beware all who want to buy this game, its bugged to hell and not worth it.
I agree
Ive had this game since release and its totally unplayable, the bug list is endless... multiplayer doesnt work properly, ordance disappears, troops dont respond, ai is lost in space, I mean u just have to look at the forum list and theres thread after thread of 'this doesnt work' or 'does this work yet'..
And can u believe it, they just spent the last week getting the demo to 1.08 when the fucking game itself doesnt even work yet...
jeeez .... 1 day a law will have to be passed where greedy publishers will no longer be allowed to release unfinished products
This game is awsome!
I played only about 50 turns, but I can tell that this game is awsome!
It may still have some bugs (Although I didn't experience any hang, crash, or any other major problem), but NO games are ever been released totally bug-free.
I've never seen a better sequel for a game. It took some of the best features of SE3 and SE4, and added some very interesting totally new features.
Also, we know from the experience on previous games that the game will be improved greatly in the future with patches and mods.
I just love it!

Good joke

ROFL. Poor Aaron, first people are screaming at him to update the demo so it accuratly reflects the game, then others whine about him doing so. Also, something you don't seem to have considered is that fixing the demo was probably a nice "break" for him: he only had to change the code to match the updates to the main project, a MUCH easier task than tracking down bugs, figuring out what code is acting wrong, then devising a correction.
As far as laws about unfinished products? That isn't even worth a ROFL, its just to ridiculous.

If you were able to play 200
If you were able to play 200 turns on a game that is less than a month out the starting gate w/o MAJOR issues, you're lucky... with ANY game... considering how they are always shipped buggy these days. Having you open your wallet makes you part of the problem, not the answer. What we all need to do is NOT buy ANY game when It's released. Wait two or three months. If we all did that, the game publishers would take notice and put the games thru a bit more spit and shine b4 putting it on the shelf.
So go piss in a bucket dude, you already screwed yourself. Stop complaining.
As for me, this game has only ONE bug that is making me put it on the shelf till it's patched. That's the fleet ordinance loss bug. I hear there is a work around tho. But 1.09 is around the corner. So stfu and wait a few days.
This game has potential
This game, unlike many many others, has potential. Yes, the bugs piss me off to, but with proper patching and updating this game has far more potential than even games like WoW, EQ, or your garden variety FPSs.
one day a law will have to
one day a law will have to be passed, eh?
...hope that day doesn't come soon...and I say that as the buyer.
Consider, for just a moment, that Malfador had waited to release SE5 until it was running absolutely perfectly.
First, the game would not have likely reached the level of stability at which it is currently at (as the number of beta testers presenting bugs to be squashed is much smaller than the number of players in the community.)
Second...from the perspective of the gamer that's been waiting a seeming ETERNITY for the game in the first place...I think it's fair to say that I'd rather have the game now, buggy as it is, improving as it is...than get it in another 5 years fully working...and I think most people can agree on that.

WoW
Bite your toung, Virulent!
WoW is a differen't genre, and can go quite far in its own right

some ideas
First, 200 turns is a long way in, so it's not as if you didn't play for "any significant legnth of time." But it shouldn't be crashing regardless. One thing is you ought to be playing with the Balance Mod (you'd have to start a new game though); it fixes so many problems from ordnance to point-defense to AI ship designs.
Anyway, one thing that might help you in your current situation is to temporarily take control of all the AI empires (I'm not sure how to do this, it was mentioned elsewhere) for one turn and see if that gets you past the crashing. If it does, just put them back to AI control next turn. If it doesn't, send the save game file to MM, download the balance mod, start over and chalk it up to crappy luck. The game is much more enjoyable with the balance mod by Captain Kwok.
