How do I upgrade ships?

Submitted by Grimaldi on Wed, 2006-10-25 09:57. Space Empires V FAQs

I'm talking about upgdariung actual ships to a new design, not upgrading the design itself, I knwo how to do that.

In SE4, you could upgrade a ship to a new design when it was at a space yard - the changed components would be ripped out and then the ship would be repaired. I've searched and searched through the interface and the manual but I can't find any way to do this.

Also, if I recall correctly, in SE4 you could do mass upgrades of facilities and maybe even ships. There was one screenm where you could say "Upgrade all my Research facilty 2's to research facility 3's empire-wide" and it would add the upgrade to the en dof each colony's queue. Is there a way to do this in SEV?

Thanks!

recycle icon

Click on the ship icon, and then in the control pannel, on the bottom right of the screen, you will see a "recycle" icon (three green arrows going in a triangular shape). Click that icon. The next screen will have a series of options. One of the uptions is "upgrade".

Note that ships in fleets behave differently

Submitted by crward on Wed, 2006-10-25 14:09.

From memory: upgrading ships in fleets is a little quirky.

Upgrading one will upgrade them all, IIRC. I'd need to test this more for specifics (whether it only upgrades ships marked obsolete, etc). But it is something to watch out for - kind of a feabug.

Just a quick note

The icon in the submenu is on the top row of the options. It has a ship with a hammer next to it, with a popup help description called "Retrofit Ship".

Yeah when I use retrofit it

Yeah when I use retrofit it lets me select any other ship design of the same hull type. You do have to be careful if you change the ship to another design it doesn't automatically change the name so rename it so you don't get confused later.
