MOO Races

Submitted by Elucidus on Tue, 2006-10-24 13:25. SE:V MODs

I am working on adding all of the Master of Orion races to the game. I guess I spent so long playing against them I am just more comfortable seeing them in the game. I am adding them as full empires not custom races. There are some thing I know I will have to reuse from the existing races such as the ship types, but the portraits and flags, are almost done as they are fairly easily made. If there is anywhere someone could show me that defines everything or that could help me figure these things out. I would be most appreciative.

Also if anyone could help me by comparing the looks of the ships and such between the SE5 races and the moo races as that will probably be the last thing I change.

Some of the moo2 races that are only magnate races in moo3 i am having a hard time finding portraits for, so if there is any info out there anyone knows of that could help me there as well, would be much appreciated.

If people are interested in seeing this, let me know, that will help motivate me. I am home on sick leave until sometime in november so it shouldn't take me that long.

Yours in gaming,
~Elucidus

Submitted by ekolis on Tue, 2006-10-24 13:32.

I have been working on a MOO-based mod for SE5 recently myself; I already mapped out most of the MOO races to SE5 races based on physical appearance.

So a few like the Mrrshans and Alkari are missing, but I think I did a pretty good job Eye-wink

Why don't all you MOO

Submitted by LordHavoc on Tue, 2006-10-24 14:06.

Why don't all you MOO modders team up and create a true great mod. Get some modellers, texture artist, script junkies and churn out a mod that'll be remembered for years.

Right now I am just looking

Submitted by Elucidus on Tue, 2006-10-24 14:26.

Right now I am just looking at adding the moo races and maybe a few other elements, I haven't decided exactly, but i am willing to collaborate with you guys. I have stolen/imported the graphics from moo3 for some of the races, though some I am trying to find alternate graphics for because I dont' like them.

I would prefer not to use

Submitted by ekolis on Tue, 2006-10-24 14:45.

I would prefer not to use "appropriated" graphics and sound effects for the mod, just to avoid getting in trouble Eye-wink
However, if anyone wants to model/draw *replicas* of the MOO ships and aliens, that's perfectly fine by me! Laughing out loud
I just think it might be better to focus on the gameplay aspects (tech tree, race traits, etc.) since those are moddable via text files and the graphics and sounds are harder to do and we have the stock SE5 ones which can be made to fit most of the races anyway - with a bit of imagination, a XiChung can be a Klackon! They were a bit bland in Moo to be honest. You've got a lot more freedom with a 3d model. Hey, i've just thought of something...a teletubby ships set Laughing out loud

Well that is my limitation.

Submitted by Elucidus on Tue, 2006-10-24 15:09.

Well that is my limitation. I don't have much graphics ability. I have been modding for years (started with civ3), and I am alright with 2-d graphics, but I can't do anything 3d, just never was able to get self-tought. So I am gonna have to settle for the race graphics of the game, other than the preferred ones of SE5 that match the moo races, there are a few of those. The flags and such I was gonna design myself, based on the moo2 flags and color scheme. Although if you can work on those portraits, I would be happy to work on the flags and other areas I am capable of on my end, if you still want to collaborate. Let me know.

If your good with 2d, good texturing skills is always a well sought after skill.

Yeah, definitely - I can

Submitted by ekolis on Tue, 2006-10-24 17:50.

Yeah, definitely - I can model some decent looking spaceships in Wings, but texturing them is a real PITA!
/me is still waiting for a modelling app that is as easy to use as wings AND has procedural texture baking capabilities Sticking out tongue

Submitted by Nanaki on Tue, 2006-10-24 22:14.

Contemplated it, but I would rather use the MOO1/MOO2 Race set rather than the MOO3... Although, that is probably because of my strong dislike of MOO3 and every single one of the changes it did.

Yeah this is based on the moo seriers, more than any one thing, I am only using some of the graphics from moo3 at least until I can get some homemade images. I have only considered using the races from moo3 and then only a couple, I have no plans for those though, want to get the heart of the moo series mastered first.

Submitted by Nanaki on Wed, 2006-10-25 19:41.

I would recommend going with the MOO2 racial set... The only race you are really missing is the Ithkul (The rest of the 'new' races in MOO3 are just clones of already-existing races), and they would be overpowered anyway. Well, and the Evon, but I doubt anybody will miss the Evon. Eye-wink

MoO 3 battles

Submitted by Z12LAZARUS on Thu, 2006-11-09 09:55.

I would like to see one aspect of MoO 3: and what was the ship battles. I liked how your ships lumbered along a bit slowly, and ships which have good long range weapons could get a few volleys in before they start shooting each other with their short range weapons. That was real exciting if your race had great long range weapons, and poor engines, and then your enemy had great engines, and even better short range weapons. I also liked how all guns could target anything: including fighters and missles.
Can anyone explain how the PD bug is affecting things? What would happen if you give most weapons anti-missle/fighter capability?
