Blank System Names

Bugbear's picture
Submitted by Bugbear on Mon, 2006-10-23 15:11. Space Empires V General

For some reason I have systems with no name. The warp points to them are Labled "Warp Point to". Now this would be funny except ships do not take these warp points when going places. This leads to very long trips. And when I send ships to a warp point manaul I guess wrong over %50 percent of the time.

I can not figure out how to set a name for a system. Any ideas how? I hope naming a system fixes the issue.

Lack of system names available

Submitted by Captain Kwok on Mon, 2006-10-23 17:27.

I'd assume you increase the number of systems in settings.txt and since the systemnames.txt file only has 104 names, anything more than that will lead to nameless systems. There are large systemnames.txt floating around here somewhere.

Ahh... I hadn't noticed ships not going anywhere

Submitted by raynor on Mon, 2006-10-23 18:12.

Yep. I increased the number of system to 255 without making sure systemnames.txt had enough names. Doh!

It's been a pain for me sometimes. I'm not smart enough to do anything other than micro-manage my ships. So, I hadn't really noticed it causing a problem for the path-mapping algorithsm. I wonder if this is causing problems for the computer players as well.

Thanks for the info. I wanted to start a new game anyways. Smiling

Do you think updating the

Do you think updating the number of names in the systemnames.txt file while a game is in progress would make a diffrence? Found the anwser to that. Ok for new games does not help the current game.

Wish there was a way to fix my current game. Don't feel like starting a new one.
