Next Patch

Submitted by Hmudd67 on Mon, 2006-10-23 09:10. Space Empires V General

With all the bugs and problems with the game even with the recent patch makes me want to ask the obvious question.

When is the next patch coming out????

Also in your navigation list at the upper left of the web page will there ever be a file or download link??

Thanks

We are expecting to release

Submitted by jrock on Mon, 2006-10-23 10:13.

We are expecting to release the next patch in the next few weeks and it will be addressing several major and minor bugs that are still evident after the 1.08 patch.

Thank you for your suggestion with the navigation list, you will notice that there is now a section labeled "projects & downloads"

Planets and Specials

Submitted by Wildstorm on Mon, 2006-10-23 13:39.

What is the deal with the specials on the planets vanishing... I liked those in SE4 and was looking forward to them in 5. They never stay longer then first round so cannot get any.....any suggestions or will this be patched

Specials? I'm not sure what

Submitted by Jerseyboy381 on Mon, 2006-10-23 14:28.

Specials? I'm not sure what you're talking about. Personally the thing I miss is ruins on planets. It was fun stumbling across a little piece of galactic history and getting a fun new tech from it.

Specials = Ruins

It looks like that's what he was talking about.

I miss them too; hopefully they will be fixed in the next patch.

Yes Specials are ruins.....

Submitted by Wildstorm on Mon, 2006-10-23 15:17.

Yes Specials are ruins.....under planet explore they are listed as specials, Sorry.
Massive planetary shield, Massive Ionic beams...ETC.
They where great....and 5 has them they just donot stick around enough to get found!

I saw them once! Once!

Submitted by PIGKiller on Mon, 2006-10-23 15:44.

Yeah I started a new game on Saturday and thought I hit the jackpot when I glanced over the planets in my home system. Two seperate planets each had ruins so I started to build colonizers to claim them. The only problem I had was on the very next turn they were Gone! Obviously this is a bug.

Dissapointed

Submitted by Pholostan on Tue, 2006-10-24 12:49.

Is what I am. I whas thrilled to hear that Space Empires 5 was out. But after trying to play it for awhile with constant crashes, I've not so thrilled anymore. This was a very premature release IMNSHO.

Next Patch

Submitted by Bugbear on Tue, 2006-10-24 13:47.

So has the Developer put out a tentative date for the next patch?

official word "next few

Submitted by damador on Tue, 2006-10-24 13:54.

official word "next few weeks"
i prefer often updates that could be "developed" by community

leaving the game in current almost unplayable stage for few weeks (ordnance bug ... the one that atm prevent me from playing ) is bad choice

yeah i totally agree

Submitted by darklight128 on Tue, 2006-10-24 14:26.

The ordnance bug is a God damn joke!! just do a patch for that if possible, Ive had this game for a week now and its really pissing me off that a bug this serious is still around after a patch.

There is only one ordinance bug I have been able to replicate and that is using fleets.

I stopped using fleets with ordinance using weapons and stopped using ordinance using ships in fleets. Either of these temporary solutions makes the game playable for me while we wait for the next patch.

I put all the ships I want to travel together in one hex, hit select all and send them on their way. Klugie, but it works for now.

I played version 1.0 for 3 days before 1.08 came out. There were a few things that got fixed in 1.08, that broke other things. If he releases a patch every other day, it will fix 5 things, break 3 others. If we wait say, 3 more weeks for a patch, it will fix 50 things, break 20 others.

yes - but b4 battle you have

Submitted by damador on Tue, 2006-10-24 14:55.

yes - but b4 battle you have to made fleets again .... you waste 2/3 of game time for maintaining the fleets (split/join) instead of playing ;/

yea it's not quite as simple

Submitted by se5a on Wed, 2006-10-25 05:35.

yea it's not quite as simple as releasing a patch every other day.
Aaron's been buisy lately fixing a new demo version, and trying to clear his email...
also, the code needs to be writen/fixed, it needs testing, it needs packaging up into a patch, it needs testing by the beta testers, (who also have jobs/lives/wives/girlfrends, go easy on them) that needs fixing again if broken, then tested again and releaced to you guys.

no - its true

but what is the problem of releasing full game as demo only with 100 turn limit hard coded in engine ( so the full and demo will be the same except turn limit)

Piracy isn't the problem - game has no protection so it could be copied without problem.

It will save much time and effort ...
Galactic Civilization uses this with very good results (they post beta patches for community and LISTEN to suggestions)

The demo has only a fraction

Submitted by LordHavoc on Wed, 2006-10-25 06:34.

The demo has only a fraction of the races and technologies available in it. Even if you could crack the 100 turn limit and the modding protection, you would have to spend several hundred hours in labour to add 'content'.

One workaround for the

Submitted by DimmurWyrd on Wed, 2006-10-25 07:04.

One workaround for the ordnance problem that I've used is to go organic and use ordnance vats that produce ordnance kinda like solar cells and supply... VERY useful especially for massive fighter bases/carriers. I've had tons of ships in fleets without losing ordnance that way Smiling

Yeah I noticed, very nice!
Though I expected to see the 1.08 patch listed there.

I noticed that in SE4 you had the ability is the game setup to choose which
areas you would like to include or not in the game. SE5 doesn't have this feature.
I don't know if this is an oversight or it was desided not ot include it.
I personally would like to have that ability back in SE5. I think certain Tech areas
like Stellar Manipulation which allows you to create planets and warp points and even
destroy suns, or that can drastically change the game should be optional. Being able to do that in the startup in SE4 is one of the things I like best about SE4. I know I could a modd with the tech I want and without the tech I don't want, but it would be alot easier just to select which tech I wanted to include or exclude in the game setup.
