Drone issues

Submitted by Scinex on Mon, 2006-10-23 00:34. Space Empires V FAQs

I haven't used point-defenses yet in SE5, so I decided to draw up some plans to test in combat simulations. I took about 10 drones with heavy shielding and minimal explosives to see what kind of cannons would be best suited for disposing of them. I've encountered two very troubling abnormalities.

1) The cannons do not automatically target the incoming drones. I don't know if this is by mistake or by design, but it's a serious problem. Not just because SE4 point-defense cannons targeted seekers automatically, but also because seekers are so very hard to see with the new 3D combat system.

And what's even stranger...

2) The prototype station is invariably destroyed by only one drone hit. This was true in all scenarios, even when I loaded it with over 15 million tons of armor and 20+ shield generators (level 100, no less.) These drones have very light explosives, and should not do more than 3 or 4k's of damage at most.

I mean... woah. What's goin' on?

Point Defense kinda broken

Submitted by antirelic on Mon, 2006-10-23 14:50.

I've had this same scenario. Point Defense doesnt seem to work. I reported this in the 1.08 bug thread, but to sum it up:

PD doesnt fire more than 1 weapon (so if you have 5 flak, only 1 shot is fired).

This makes drones, fighters and missile ships very over balanced (and a huge favorite of players).

Drones kinda broken, too?

Submitted by Scinex on Mon, 2006-10-23 15:25.

Is this bug also related to the instakill drones that so miraculously destroyed my impossibly well-armored and well-shielded starbase? That's what puzzles me most, because I did the calculations and determined how many drones it would take to destroy the station, then put it into practice and got very different results.

Is it just me or have I found a flaw in the scientific method? Sticking out tongue

I too think something is

I too think something is wrong with drone. I sent in about ten of them and they destroyed an enemy fleet of 7 or 8 ships. Who needs space ships if drones are so powerful.
