Kinda tedius |
First off I'd like to say I'm new to SE for the most part. I played the SE IV demo a few times but never really got around to playing it. I like SEV but.... well my only real problem is is just feels too slow now. Now you hafta scan each sector and that eats at time, granted you can turn that off but the real bog down is in turn processing. With SEV we got as a bonus SEIV deluxe and honestly I find myself playing that a whole lot more than SEV. And it's partly that while the games are still long it seems much faster than the new release. Hopefully that will change but if it doesn't then I guess I just bought SEIV for way more than I had to... but.... not really angry about it. So far it's been worth every penny.
Fog of war is a huge improvement.
Now sensors actually do something significant! Just press "/" and the ship will automatically scan the sector for you. Not tedius at all.
Well if you don't like it,
Well if you don't like it, you can easily turn it off, thats what the settings and mods are for, to customize the game to your liking. If everyone liked it the exact same then "New Game" would simply start the game up for you.

Fog Of War
I think one of the "new game" settings controls the fog of war for you, if you want it to.
There are 10 types of people in the world:
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.

that's when you do 24hr PBW
that's when you do 24hr PBW games.
although there is no PBW for SEV yet, that may be a bit of a problem.

I LOVE scanning each sector
Personally, I think the scanning requirement including 'fog of war' is one of my favorite features of SEV. Of course, the #1 thing I figured out really quickly is to always remember to include Sensors on my ships. Can you imagine how tedious it is if you can only see just one hex away? In my current game, the first thing I researched was Sensors so that my scout ships could see about six hexes away. That makes the system surveying go MUCH faster.
I didn't really like the SEV demo. But most of the stuff I didn't like got changed in the final version. Now, I'm absolutely in love with two or three of the features of SEV:
1. I love the infinite research.
2. I love the right click menus and keyboard shortcuts.
3. I love creating custom views of my colonies and construction queues.
4. I love how races can "migrate" to your colonies so that you don't have to go to war to get, for example, CO2 breathers to fully utilize your, for example, non O2 planets.
5. I love that production carries over from turn to turn.
