Combat, help plz |
So, I was playing a game in a large galaxy with 6 other common empires on hard dificult. I decided to atack an enemy planet that I knew had 15 ships in orbit, so I made a huge fleet, more than 80 light cruisers, divided in task forces.
4- 10 ships atack task force
1- invasion task force
1- support task force
1- orbital bombard task force
VEry nice, I was pretty sure that I would not have problens, those 15 ships became 14 freighters and 1 frigate, so I killed them without a problem.
Them it got worse, my ships continued to aproach the planet, killed the sattelite defenses and slaughtered everything on it before I could land troops on it.
So, this is not only about bugs and poor AI, but also about some combat controls that I am missing. If I drag a box around all my ships and set manual movements, I would need to move one by one? or if I tell 1 to move, the rest of the task force will follow? And how the hell did I see with task force the ships is part of? it is so complicated.

Treaties
Treaties can do a lot of wierd things... no stellar manipulation, no research, no intelligence... no bombarding planets!
(and yes, I just said this in another thread).
There are 10 types of people in the world:
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
If you drag a box around
If you drag a box around your ships and set a new waypoint per right click, all the ships will move towards that location.
And come on, 80 ships against 15? That was overkill ( even if that had been 15 dreads )!

Toggle autotargeting
I resolved this problem turning off autotargeting for the ship. Anyone know how to set this as default for any combat? Is annoying to do this job every battle. Same for the carrier, i don't want that it launch all the fighter that have in bay but i prefer to manual launch them.
Regarding the invasion of a planet, i have no problem to manually drop the troops on it, it work...
Curious about this myself...
One of my biggest pet peeves about SEIV was that I could never figure out how to tell my fleet to capture the planet. In particular, I always wanted the game to fire only enough weapons at the planet to destroy the defensive Weapon Platforms. But I never figured it out. Instead, I always micro-managed the battles even to the extent of firing my weapons one at a time.
Now that you cannot take that kind of control of your ships, I'm really curious to see if SEV is smart enough to:
1. Know to stop firing at some point, and
2. Fire only enough weapons to destroy the defenses

Patch 1.08
G'Day Kadrush
I think something in the 1.08 patch has stopped planet invasion. Pre-patch I could do similar invasions and capture the planet. But now even if you manually drop troops, they will not attack correctly. Until the next patch comes out, you will just have to exterminate all aliens.
