Rioting people, what can I do?

Submitted by ChaosSpeeder on Sat, 2006-10-21 08:46. Space Empires V General

Hi,

I am a new player of space empires V. So far, the game is great. My current gripes are my unhappy and rioting planets. I read the manual, what things affects happiness, but what can I do, to make the people happier? I am currently at the very beginning of the game at turn 35.

Star Ships in orbit seems to have no effect.

Further question: Where can I see the factors in the game, which effect unhappiness?

many thanks

I think there needs to be reasons made clear in the UI of why they are rioting.

May be a bug.

If you took the racial trait "Naturally happy" it may be bugged and reversed. If you did, you may want to restart without that trait.

If you didn't, there are a few things you can do for happiness:

Build lots and lots of small troops with only one weapon and put them on ALL planets that are not Jubilent. If one or two planets are rioting, check the happiness on ALL your planets. Some may be indifferent, or unhappy. LOOK OUT! They are on the way to a riot, build troops on THOSE planets fast.

Ships will make them happier, but you need a pretty big fleet. Think around 10 - 20 ships. Once you use them to make the planet get out of rioting, leave them there while you build lots of troops, then move them to the next rioting planet. I had this happen, used a small fleet then built lots of troops and eventually everyone was Jubilent.

Also, there are facilitys you can build that will make EVERYONE in a whole system happy. Research them up a few good levels and build one in every single system.

Troops make the people happy

In SEIV, troops were the #1 way to keep everyone happy. It is the same way in SE V. Just tell all your planets that aren't happy to build troops. After a few turns worth of construction, you will see your people becoming more and more happy.

Thank you. I will check the trait "Naturally happy". All of my planets are on the way to a riot. Maybe, I must build a lot of troops now.

But the UI must be improved, to show the reasons for unrest.

edit: Yes, I have the trait "Naturally happy". ok, I restart the game.

Let them eat cake

The social areas of research accessed by researching civics also help with the more riot prone races. As does expanding a little slower I have noticed however still playing the demo as I don’t seem to be able to buy the game in a box in the UK so I don’t know if the demo differs from the game here. If you want a race that won’t riot go for a custom race that’s unemotional.

It’s also better to prevent riots from happening rather than trying to stop them as some planets don’t have the cargo capacity to hold the number of troops needed to suppress a riot and building a fleet of 20 police frigates can bankrupt you

I have found glassing unhappy worlds the best solution, or just jetisoning the entire population into space Laughing out loud
