Access violation with Strategic Combat

It Depends's picture
Submitted by It Depends on Fri, 2006-10-20 21:01.
Project:Space Empires V
Version:1.08
Component:User interface
Category:bug
Priority:critical
Assigned:Unassigned
Status:active

Description

When pressing Close after single player strategic combat is finished, I get an access violation @ 0068961D in SEV.exe. If the game and desktop resolution match, SEV becomes windowed, and is a pure grey screen. If they do not match, screen goes completely black. Desktop can be only recovered by rebooting or going in and out of sleep mode. If I go into sleep selecting SEV puts me back into the same black screen. I haven't had a chance to test this out in multiplayer, but hopefully I will get a chance tonight.

Driver and hardware info upon request.

Updates

#1 submitted by ukle on Sun, 2006-10-29 09:46

I am encountering the same error, makes the game almost unplayable as every other battle causes the game to crash.

Wont post my DX info but my system is similar to Baoghal's in 2 ways -

He is running on a Dual Core Intel same as me (well mine is a Core2Duo but...)
I am running in 16:9 display as well (1360x720 in mycase).

other than that cant see any other similarities.

Not had a single issue with this machine and this is the first program that is Crashing that have I encountered since I built it 3 months ago.

Will post DX info if it will be of any help.

I get same access error

Submitted by phalzyr on Mon, 2006-10-23 08:01.

I get same access error, this seems to only happen to me though when I attack a protected planet. If the planet is solo it doesn't CTD if any ships or other thigns are in battle it will ctd when clicking close. Note: I started a new game when 1.08 came out so it isn't the issue with 1.00 saved game.

OP: You can get past these CTD by just choosing tacticle. Speed things up by changing speed to 8x. Someone also mentioned turning on autoall before strategic battle but not sure how to do that myself...

That looks a little high, try a clean boot.

Driver Version: 6.14.0010.9131 (English)

I'm not 100% sure, but that looks a little old -- check and see if there's an update.

Dunno if either of those will help with an access violation, though.

Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
