Baoghal's picture
Submitted by Baoghal on Tue, 2006-10-17 23:50. Space Empires V FAQs

Whats the diffence between a defense base and an attack base, at least as far as ministers/AI is concerned?

Defense Base vs. Attack Base

Submitted by Baoghal on Tue, 2006-10-17 23:57.

I can't really see what an "Attack Base" would be... maybe like a Death Star or something along that line.

Eh, just a tag to give something

So you can sort it out however you think about it. I usually put defensive weaponry on Defence Bases while offensive on attack bases. Sure, they are not going anywhere, but it is something useful if you differentiate that way.

I would have the attack base

Submitted by LordHavoc on Wed, 2006-10-18 02:12.

I would have the attack base have more weapons and less defence and visa versa for the defence base. Or maybe equip an attack base with fighters, cargo and a construction yard and set it to repeat build fighters.

If you have attack bases...

Submitted by antirelic on Mon, 2006-10-23 14:55.

Chances are the game will be over shortly if you have attack bases as the AI never quiet gets past destroyers.

Attack Base

Submitted by Rilbur on Mon, 2006-10-23 18:10.

I usually use teh attack base designation for "siege fortifications"... sometimes the AI has built into a planet so hard, so thickly (usually in mods) that your troops simply can't take it in one go. For example, in the Adamant SEIV mod, I'd usually park my fleet in orbit over a homeworld, destroy its defenses, then back off and build lots of ship yard bases to build troops and just keep dropping them untill the planet finally fell. Usually this was the work of years... which was one reason I liked the mod, it was VERY hard to actually finish an enemy off, just like it should be Laughing out loud

Glass them, glass them all

Submitted by Thy Reaper on Wed, 2006-10-25 20:43.

In SE:IV I just built what I called Juggernauts: Base ships with 5K or more shielding that could take a full barrage from most planets' weapondry. It was then equipped with enough Massive Napalm weapons that the planet was glassed in just a few turns. Of course, I sent three at a time... Smiling

I use Attack Base to indicate a base built buy an invasion fleet for the purpose of repairing and resupplying the fleet, along with providing a strong fall back position if something goes wrong. I've never stayed in a system long enough to need this strategy, however.

Attack Base sometimes also refers to extremely remote bases I build in unoccupied systems as a resupply base for deep space exploration & observation vessels.

Maybe the Attack Ship is for

Maybe the Attack Ship is for the Baseships? I don't know I haven't gotten that far.

I've always used them for

Submitted by LordHavoc on Thu, 2006-10-26 16:06.

I've always used them for their function. Typically i've used defense bases on my planets and warp points. But I've made attack bases designed to handle themselves deep in enemy territory. By giving it cargo bays, ship yards and mine layers.
