No Point Defence in Technology in Balance mod

Hi

I am using playing with Balance mod 116 and I notice I did not have Point Defense as an option after I got the need prereques. I even used the cheat code to give my self all tech and still point defense was not there.

Anyone have any idea how that happend or How I can fix it?

The only prereq for Point-Defense in Balance Mod is military science level 1, which is a starting tech... have you modified your Balance Mod data files in any way?

I have the same problem. PD is missing from my research options. Also, after researching Physics, High Energy Discharge weapons are now missing as well. Is there a new tech tree for BM 1.16?

Can you check your components.txt file - does Point-Defense Cannons have a prerequisite of "Point - Defense Weapons" or "Point-Defense Weapons"?

It is "Point-Defense Weapons". (No space before or after the hyphen.) This is the case for the PD Cannons, Blaster and Beam.
By the way, I am also missing High Energy Discharge weapons. I checked the components.txt file for them and they also do not have spaces before or after the hyphen in the prerequisite statement.

Now that you mention it I was also missing "high energy dischage weapons". Kind of kicked backed an punted. Delteted and re-installed the balance mod. Will let you know how it goes. One other thing you need to do I found that I don't load an old game setup file. Now to see if the error has cleared.

So Captina Kowk. How shoud that component appear in the file?

Well re-installing the game an balance mod just made it go from bad to worse. When I try and add a new empire I get and error.

Access violation at address 0057172A in module 'se5.exe'. read of address 00000038

Note adding a new empire in normal games causes no error.

What fun.

Deleted all extra shipsets from balance mod and game. No more Access violaion. Any idea how to figure out which ship set was messing me up?

Cap'n Kwok - If it helps, High Energy Discharge Weapons never appeared in the expected results window when researching Physics 3. Scanners did, but I don't think that Phased Energy Weapons did either.

Cap'n Kwok - I finally had time to do a little experimentation and it looks like this is caused by loading a Game Setup that was created under an earlier version. I started from scratch and the Point Defense Weapons are now in the research tree. I haven't gotten there yet, but I can guess that High Energy Discharge Weapons will also now become available.

When I started a new game, I noted point-defense was gone from the beginning tech components. And was not listed in research screen. I wondered if Point-defense was disabled for a reason. :)So I played one game with point-defense weapons disabled, and selected non missle weapons as a handicap. Set the difficulty to high, bonus = high. And promptly got my butt handed to me. Got lazy playing pre-patch 1.15 games. And was not expecting a armada of ships armed with range=15 nuclear missiles. Smiling

For me:
Setting the techareas data file, point-defense to can be removed
= FALSE worked for me.

And yes, if I was smart and not lazy, I would have done what Kwok had suggested.
