Invading Planets with Troops

You need to have troops (or fighters, but not fighter bays or they'll just launch in combat) on the ship. Once you've got that, then in combat order your ship to drop it's troops on the planet.

Assuming, of course, that the planet is defenseless...

and you've set 'Capture Planet' as Fleet & Ship strategy.

I've found that invading planets in a PBW to be needlessly difficult if they have any defenses. My troopship either gets trashed or I accidentally glass the world. I've found it better to just glass everything in sight and immediately follow-up with colony ships. That strategy actually worked quite well in my last game.

Perhaps my invading technique needs a little work. Is there a foolproof way of invading in a PBW?
