Depleated resources

Submitted by Fangman on Sat, 2008-10-04 12:26. Space Empires V General

I'm rolling along with six or eight systems. I have from 1 to 4 colonies, and 1 space port in each system.

On the planets that have room for only 2 or 3 facilities, I don't build storage facilities.

Somewhere around turn twenty-five or thirty most if not all colonies report production stopped due to the lack of resources.

I've tried to recover, but I haven't found a way to do so yet. I usualy end up dumping the game through frustration.

What am I doing...wrong?

There are several reasons for running out of resources. You need to check the logs as to which planets have run out and look at the conditions on those planets. One of the easiest ones to catch you is colony ships dont check the population before loading colonists and will completely empty a planet of people to fill the ship. Your population may be unhappy if enemy ships are in your systems and will stop production because of it. You may have too many ships etc. drawing upkeep resources draining your supplies. Basically, you need to check your planets and track it down.

Are you running a resource deficit? Do you have any resources in storage?

Despite the fact it says production stops due to lack of resources I've found it means either everyone on the planet is dead (o population) or they are rioting.

In case of a resource deficit, you can freeze planetary queues that are building stuff you don't need, or clear them all together.

Use the Crown on the menu bar, it will take you to a resource summary page. It will show you how much of each resource (mine, farm, refining) you are producing, trading, tariff. Then shows how much your expending each turn to maintenance, upkeep, and such.

Check the summary at the bottom; ideally you want a surplus each turn of each resource. However, you can run a deficit until your storage runs out.

Another way is to check the top menu bar (to the right of center) it will have either 3 numbers, one blue, green, and yellow OR one red and purple. If you see the 3 numbers, that is your resources in storage, blue-mining, green-farming, yellow-refining. IF you see the 2 it is red-intelligence and purple-research.

The planets also have 3 values (mining, farming, refining.) When you build the correct structure you acquire resources. Note that each building has a base production (3,000). Then modified by population amount and happiness. The actual production is based on:

Building base production (3,000) X planet Value (70% =.7) = 2,100 produced minus maintenance. Then modified by population amount and happiness.

I get this problem at least once a game. I have more than adequate recourses and am able to totally crank out ships, its just one or two planets that come up with this issue. The fix usually requires me to abandon the planet and recolonize it and build exactly the same facilities. I don’t have anymore problems with that planet the rest of the game.

Placing troops on the planet works for me (unless the pop is 0). Smiling
