How long or how far to a system?

Submitted by Martin Dermody on Wed, 2008-08-06 10:35. Space Empires V FAQs

Is there an elegant way to determine how far or how long it will take to arrive somewhere before I send a ship? I want to send colonizers off to closer spots sometimes.

I also see that if I multi-select bases or colony that can't move and give orders for them to move somewhere then when I click on the base/colony it shows me the number of hexes to the destination.

Is there a better way to determine the trip length before sending a ship?

I am using the current version of the balance mod.

Thank you

In sequential movement games, you have to count the sectors manually. In simultaneous games, though, you can simply issue the move order, and cancel it after seeing the transit time.

If there is no enemy presence you can use the sentry function.

1. select the colony ship.
2. Press "y" (hot key for sentry duty)
3. Command the ship to move to destination.
4. the path will have numbers on each hex, that is the turn from now that it will be there.
5. Cancel the orders.

You can also see what system your looking at from the planets interface page. The inset mini-map will highlight the star system under your cursor. That can give you a rough idea of travel time.
