Stuipd Question

Submitted by dimen24 on Sat, 2008-07-05 18:42. Space Empires V General

I was able to pretty much just start playing and figure out how it all works without much help from the manual at all, which again Developers PROPS!. I am an expirenced Gamer with lots of SSI titles under my belt. but I do have a question that someone can answer for me cause I am just to dumb to figure it out or find it in the manual.. Once I have built a facility on a planet how do I remove or replace it with something else I want to replace mineralminers with monolith can I do that or do I have to combat myself and kill it?

Facilities can be scrapped using the Scrap Cargo (or CTRL+K hotkey) order when a planet is selected.

Thats not a stupid question. Its one of the most common questions people new to the game ask. Its not intuitive as it treats facilities as cargo. I've been told its a relic from the beta that never got patched out.

One other thing to notice:

The facilities can be Jettisoned into space (NO resources recovered) or Recycled (some resources recovered)

"relic from the beta"?

I don't think so. Now moving the order button to the other section would make sense, but the basic game code seems to treat facilities as if they're a form of cargo that can only be stored on planets.

Correct. And its been like that since the beta. Hence a relic from the beta. Apparently, some people lobbied during the beta to get that changed and it never was.

"relic" to me would be something that might get taken out. Facilities as cargo is not something I think Aaron will change. I wonder, If you have two planets in the same hex, could you transfer cargo between them?

It is absolutely a relic from the beta... Being a relic does not require the possibility of removal. There was a plan to make everything "cargo", and fit into the same space statistic. Population, facilities, units, etc. This universal cargo idea was scrapped, as it proved to be a horrible nightmare of a feature. Discrete space statistics were reimplemented, but the order buttons were not changed to make more sense. Thus, the location of the scrap facility order, and the fact that they can be jettisoned, is a relic.

Okay that explanation makes sense.
