Submitted by bouncebag on Sat, 2008-06-21 14:10. SE:V MODs

hi, i have created a facility that cloaks your normal planets +whatever is yours on that sector i want to immitate that with shere world i could use the space object tag but that wouldnt cover ships and other space objects where the sphereworld or ringworld is any help heres the one sector one

Name := Cloaking Facility ........ Ability 1 Type := Cloak Level Ability 1 Description := Cloaking Facility prevents level [%Amount1%] scans for any stellar object owned by you in the same sector. (only 1 facility per sector effective). Ability 1 Scope := Sector - This Player Ability 1 Range Formula := 0 Ability 1 Amount 1 Formula := 20 + (([%Level%] - 1) * 10) Ability 1 Amount 2 Formula := 0

thanks

"Space object" should cover ONLY whatever has the ability. so if a ringworld has it it should be only the ringworld that you can't see. Yeah, ships stationed there would be visible.

thats the problem space object only covers that. not ships and other things belonging to sya "this Player" or "all But this Player)

i think that maybe because you can only have one ring/sphere world in a system and no colonys maybe a "system - this player" may work what do you think, anyone?

There's a couple options, I think:

1) Use the "System - this player" ability scope. This would probably work, but it's a bit more powerful than the original facility.
2) change the coverage to "Sector - this player". That would cover the planet and any ships in that sector. It Still probably wouldn't cover cloaking a ring/sphere world though because they take up more than 1 sector.
3) The only way to do that would be to use the "Sector Range - This Player" ability scope and set a range of 6 or so to cover the ring/spere world. However, this would be pretty close to system-wide and thus would make the facility pretty unbalanced on normal planets.
4) Create two facility types - one for normal planets and one for ring/sphere worlds and set the requirements on them to make sure you can only build them on the appropriate planet type. I don't really know if this would work, though, since the requirements are VERY finicky about working on some things. You could try it and find out, however.
5) Not worry about hiding ring/sphere worlds and just use the the "Sector - This Player" scope for the facility. Hiding such a large world seems rather more difficult in any case, and may not be something you even want to allow!

Not sure if you should be able to cloak planets, especially sphere worlds. A cloak on a ship, like with the Romulans, is an energy hog. The cost to cloak a planet would be ridiculous.

That being said, the location of most space objects are mapped out so everyone should know where the planet should be. Not only that, the location of a planet can still be inferred by its gravitational effects. A cloaked sphereworld would also be severely backlit by the star inside. Sure, there won't be anything coming out in the light spectrum but that cloaked sphere will be putting out lots of xrays, neutrinos, and all kinds of other goodies.

I think he means that the facility should take up that much planetary space. Sticking out tongue Which would preclude it's construction on anything smaller than a ringworld.

AFAIK, large size is the only way available as of 1.74.

If you think about it though, something as excessively powerful as a planetary cloak (of a SW no less) should be pretty costly and massive.. So should facilities like Sys Grav Shields, but Aaron didn't like complicated stock size structures...
