Shipset question

Submitted by marhawkman on Wed, 2008-06-18 23:24. SE:V MODs

I recently tried modifying BlackSwan's interstellar alliance shipset, but found a problem I don't know how to fix. Whenever I try to use the shipset(vree), the game acts as though I selected the Interstellar Alliance shipset instead.

So what happens is:
1:create race
2: select Vree shipset
3: save race
4a: reopen race to edit or
4b: start game
5: discover tha the game is using the IA shipset instead of the Vree shipset.

My theory concerning this is that somewhere inside the shipset data is a text string it uses to identify itself. This is currently the same as in the IA shipset. Thus the game can't tell them apart.

how do I fix this?

Answering from memory as I'm at werk. But IIRC, in your race folder is a file called "Vree_main.txt" or something like that. The file I'm thinking of is only 8 or 9 lines of text stating things like:
Vree speech file := Vree/Vree_speech_file.txt
Vree shipset file := Vree/Vree_Shipset_file.txt

Here's where I think your problem is. Vree shipset file := IA/IA_shipset_file.txt

This is pointing to the wrong file and causing your problem. *I think*

Ah, yes. that was the problem. Smiling

I still have a problem with getting the sphereworld model to work as a ship. the game keeps deciding it's enormous and drawing an appropriately giant circle around it, even though the model is actually kinda small.

Make sure you've got appropriate scale factors in the shipset's XFileClasses.txt file.

I'm still trying to figure out what those are. I have the model size set to 25. I've tried reducing the scale factors but that makes the model shrink. Sad
