Troops and occupation

Submitted by Slimbo on Mon, 2008-06-16 16:44. Space Empires V FAQs

This question is about a PBW v1.66/balance mod game.

I attacked another players' homeworld with 2 troop transports full of fighters and troops. Only one of which survived long enough to drop his troop pod.

At the end of ground combat he still had a few units left and so did I, I guess I just ran out of time to finish the job.

All my attack ships got destroyed on a fluke in the starting placement (being right next to the planet.)

On the next turn I had an unarmed sat layer within sensor range and the planetary display showed my troops in the occupying window.

He had a nearby attack ship and some fighters so I ran away to the other side of a warp point where an ally has a huge stack of fighters gaurding the border, hoping he would follow and get destroyed.

Anyway, I was out of sensor range for one turn and when I could see his homeworld again, no troops of mine were there.

No new ground combat ever occured. I notice he now has some of his own troops and fighters in the cargo bay. Are they mine (become his) or did he take mine out and I didn't get a combat report because I had no sensor knowledge during the turn after the stand off?

Both scenarios seem unlikely as he was vastly outnumbered and his weakest troop design neglected to put ground thrusters on, his militia doesn't move and are sitting ducks even to a small number of ground fighters and mobile troops.

Another question, same game.

I am cooperating with another ally in a colonizer build. So we have traded a base over one of his planets. He is being gang-banged by his 2 nearest neighbors. If I build weapons platforms with the base will they go in his cargo on the planet below or will I get a we could not build message. I don't want to just try it as I am on emergency build and don't want to waste any turns on a failed experiment.

I have superior weapons, but I don't want to give him the tech. I don't mind allowing him having a few of my units with the better weapons to defend himself with.

if you got no combat record at all, it could be he used the cargo menue to throw your units into space.
this is possible for the planet owner, if the attacker doesnt win in the first round.

some older post talk about this problem.

it depends on the kind of game you agreed to play if it is an exploit or cheating.

I would ask the other player, and my reaction would depend on the answer i get (and if i can believe he answer).

Or one of the host of bugs in the game could have "eaten" your ground combat record.

If you give your ally your weapon platforms, he can scrap them and get your tech this way.

In stock game the pc sends the units to the planet, if the base has no cargo space.
But i never had a base at an ally planet. I would like to know the answer too.

I doubt very much that the WP would get placed on his planet, unless you can land your units without donating them I'd say that it's not going to happen.

I didn't think you could scrap units for tech, just ships.

He may have cargo jettison them. He says he had no combat either, but I don't think he's beyond lieing. He's embelished the story of our confilct (to make himself the complete victim of an unwarranted assualt and me the complete transgressor) to the other nearby empires hoping for help against me, because I'm pretty much kicking his butt.

My bugs don't even have contact with him. Besides they're too busy devouring another empire Smiling

To play with the minds of enemy and allies is part of the fun playing multiplayer games.
Every "Imperator" who whants to be successful has to play power politics, looking strong
where he is weak, if he attacks someone make it look the other started the war and so on.
All part of the game. The best "Imperators" stay true to their words, being traitors only if
it is absolute necessary.

But if someone is caught cheating, the best answer is all other players work together to
destroy the cheater empire VERY quickly, and afterwards never play again with this person.
If he is believable when he says sorry he can get a new try, later much later ..... maybe.

(happened some people playing MOO2, on player used a cheat, but did not know the game sends
an message to all other players if a cheat was used. funny how fast his empire dissappeared.)

But first find proof, even if it means looking into some forums if someone is "proudly"
telling how he cheated others.

Unfounded accusations can bring lots of problems of their own and can destroy
the fun and honor of many people. be careful up to the moment you find proof.
