[SE5 v1.74] about the use of weapons.... |
Okay so I’m just trying to make sure if this is right, any weapons that use beams or energy take their ammo from supplies and any other weapon that don’t use any energy, like missile, take their ammo from ordnance. Does this sound about right?
Re: [SE5 v1.74] about the use of weapons....
It is also funny to look at the point defense weapons - at least the point defense blasters do not use ANY supplies or ordinance => strange, but true.
(At least with patch 1.71 - I have not looked at them since upgrading my patch level to 1.74)

Re: [SE5 v1.74] about the use of weapons....
If point defense weapons used supplies or ordnance, a ship would be drained in no time, as the darn things fire so quickly and you can't use fractional ammo per shot
Though in Balance Mod, the PD missiles (and maybe the flak cannons) use 1 ordnance, but they don't fire quite as quickly as other PD weapons as they're more powerful...
If a weapon stores ordnance (in Balance Mod, all ordnance using weapons store about 10-20 shots worth, not sure about stock), that would be listed as an ability in the list on the bottom of the component report - e.g. "Capital Ship Missiles store 100 units of ordnance."

Re: [SE5 v1.74] about the use of weapons....
Can weapons have a fractional use of supply ordnance, in order to lower it's use on heavier mounts.
For example, can you have a weapon that uses 0.5 ordnance, making it use 1 normally, and if placed in mount that multiplies the cost by 5, you would use 2.5 (or 3 after rounding) instead of 5?
Is this possible?

Re: [SE5 v1.74] about the use of weapons....
Didn't I just answer that?
No, they can't.

Not really. My question was to do with the mechanics of how it is done. Mainly, can a fraction be used in data files to pruduce smaller (or larger) ordnance/supply use in case of heavier mounts.
So it actually contains 3 questions:
1) can the datafile understand fractions?
2) if so, are at what point are they rounded? (and how? Cut the desimal, or normal rounding?)
3) if they are rounded after the modifications from mounts come in effect, couldn't this be used to make differences for the weapons in heavier mounts?
I don't think you answered these.
Re: [SE5 v1.74] about the use of weapons....
Probably rounded down since taking the trait that reduces supply usage removes the cost to fire weapons that consume one supply per shot
Re: [SE5 v1.74] about the use of weapons....
Instead of trying to use fractions, you could just up everything else eg make weapons that normally use 1 ordnance use 10 instead. Also increase all ordnance storage by the same factor.

Re: [SE5 v1.74] about the use of weapons....
I wonder why that wasn't used in the first place...

Re: [SE5 v1.74] about the use of weapons....
Weapons list a supply and ordnance consumption amount near the top of the component report (which you get by right-clicking on the weapon). You are correct that (in stock and most mods at least) energy weapons use supplies and no ordnance, but typically matter weapons use *both* supplies and ordnance.
