Questions about multi player games |
I've never played a multi player game and would love to start but dont know where to. So any help or advice would be greatly apprieciated. My questions are.....
1) What mod is used the most or is the most popular mod in multiplayer?( i usually use the Unnamed Mod in single player). I have been looking at the BM mod and need to learn it if its the most popular.
2) Is there any games for newbie multiplayer or veterans who dont mind newbie multiplayers? I dont want to get my a$$ handed to me in 10 turns, cant learn anything and its no fun, and whats the point of playing if inexperience is only good for those who want an easy kill.
3)Is there any clubs, guilds, etc. looking for new members that are willing to take on people new to the multiplayer experience? It seems easier to play when you are in a club, they play more and you can learn more.
4)Is there a place to get more info to these questions? I'm 40+ years old and would prefere a more mature grp to play in, if that is possible.
It seems to me that multi player is the best way to go and being disabled i have more than enough time on my hands for commitment which is no problem for me. Like i said any help on these questions would be more than apprieciated, ty for your time.

Re: Questions about multi player games
Well I run the E.O.T.U. ladder(1v1)...you are welcome to join, but you will encounter new players or veterans alike there is no seeding.
The games are ingeneral fast so you won´t have to wait too long between turns.
You can follow the link below to have a look at how the ladder is at the moment.

Re: Questions about multi player games
I think the multiplayer area forum says a new game is starting via play by web. (www.pbw.cc).
it's called: When Newbies attack. A all newbie game
That should be a good learning environment.
I also direct you to: http://www.spaceempires5.com/en-US/node/5516 where I made some tips

Re: Questions about multi player games
1. Mod popularity is relative. Depends on what you like. BM and Unnamed are tops from what I hear. Capt Kwok has years and years of experience and it shows in BM. BM popularity in multiplayer has alot to do with its shortened tech tracks.
2. I'm a multiplayer noob and I'm involved in a 10 player game at www.pbw.cc that has other noobs and a few vets. Check the site out, there are a variety of games. Pick one that sounds good and jump in. I'm treating my current game as a learning experience though I'm doing well enough for now.
3. If you are thinking in terms like Everquest or World of Warcraft then the answer is no. Some players may stick together after playing X number of games though. The friends or enemies you make in one game will remember you in other games.
4. I'm in the 40+ category as well. Its probably inappropriate to go around asking people their ages before jumping into a game. The way I see it, if a player can play the game and acts reasonably mature then age doesn't matter. That's about the way it was attending Origins and GenCon conventions since the 70's when I was the young guy.
To sum up, go to www.pbw.cc, pick a suitable game, and jump in. Be aware that simultaneous turns are a little different.

Re: Questions about multi player games
Most games are either stock or use Balance Mod. I strongly recommend that you look for Balance Mod games since stock is so horribly unbalanced. There are a few other mods that pop up on occasion, but you'll have better luck finding opponents with Balance Mod.
You might try look at this game right here. Don't worry if that one fills up. People are starting newbie games all the time. And don't be afraid to jump right in with the veterans; with some careful diplomacy you'll last a while. IMO you'll learn faster by playing with veterans.
I think there's a King-of-the-Hill type league which plays 1 vs 1 exclusively. That's a good way to gain a lot of experience.
This is the right place, although maybe you ought to try the Multiplayer forum instead of the General forum. Also, most of the multiplayer games are hosted on Play By Web, so you might look there for games.
